Hi--I took my son to Italy while he was still a foster child. You need a court order stating that you have permission to take him abroad, and you need a copy of the original order giving DSS custody of the child.
You'll also need a copy of the child's birth certificate. Ask your social worker to have the county/state attorney file a motion with the court to allow you to take the kid abroad. |

If you go to the web site for pass ports there will be a section on how to gain a pass port for a minor whom you are gardian of.
It helped me to email the pass port offices explaining the situation ( fostering) and asking what EXACTLY I needed to have- then when they replied ( next day) I forwarded the email to my SW. You might want to print it out and take the email with you.

Once, SW told me that court needs to grant permission to the county to get a passport for the child, along with the court permission to take child out of the country, those papers should be sufficient, I will think.
It is not difficult to get the permission to travel, most judges will granted, mine took about a week to get it. Isa |

I guess it would depend on your SW. If they are willing to work with you, it shouldn't take more then a few days to get the paperwork done- as for court permission- I cant say how long that would take....
Also remember- it takes about 6 weeks to get the pass port- LEAVE time for ISSUES to arise and be taken care of.
