Thumbs up It's a baby!!!!!!

(cross-posted)
I'm getting my first placement and I'm not even licensed yet!

A newborn, born last night. Discharge will be Monday morning. I have no idea if it's a boy or girl -she said she thought it was a boy (so much for only fostering girls!).

It's supposed to be short term (am I being naive here ) as they are looking at suitable kinship homes.

I was complaining too at how long it is taking my homestudy to get done. Looks like I have nothing to worry about.

Time to seriously nest! I will update with more info when I hear!

Congratulations! How exciting! It COULD be a short term placement - I've read of that happening to many other people here, taking newborns for a short time while family gets there stuff in order. But you never know! ;-)

The truth is you never know. Pray for the best to happen to the child. When faced with taking on a child, many family members are so willing to jump in when the reality hits them.

beware the "short term" placement.....i took in bio sibs that were 8 and 9 for "one month" and then a newborn for "one week"...and now I have had them for 3 1/2 years...and they are now adopted. Then we took in a newborn and his 4.5 year old sister...everyone said it would end up in adoption, and they went home after only 4 months....so you NEVER know

Congrats, my first placement also was a newborn straight from the hospital. I kept her until the maternal cousin took her (she was a single parent and already had 2 bio kids and the 2 siblings, so she couldnt take on a newborn who was up all night and work) I had her for 9 weeks. Do not be surprised if the relatives dont want the baby until he/she is sleeping thru the night.

Well I went to meet the little guy tonight. ADORABLE!
I will return over the weekend and try to feed him. He is not doing so well (eating) and we are trying to avoid a nose tube.

Congrats on your new little guy.
It is great that you are getting to feed him,it will help him having that time with you.I know I got to feed S when she was born and everynight until we got to take her home.( Iworked at the hospital and had clearance to the newborn nursery). Now she is TPR'd(as well as her brother and sisters) and we are hoping to adopt in a couple of months!

Update

I've been busy going back and forth to the hospital to feed him. They had to give feeds via NG tube Friday night to Saturday, but since last night he is taking all his feeds by bottle. It's a struggle though but he is making progress. I have never seen a baby that just would not suck! I know it's from his drug exposure. I have gone twice a day over the weekend and hope to do so this week also, but may only get over there once a day. He's so cute and we are totally bonding! The hospital staff is wonderful too.
Hopefully he can come home the end of the week - I keep praying he continues to improve!
