foster/adopt in KY???

Hi, if my hubby doesn't make rank in Oct. we are seriously thinking about putting in a request to leave where we currently are; I have never liked it here. Anyway, I have been looking at housing in the area he would be stationed, schools, etc. and was wanting any info from anyone who is there and is foster/adopting. Did you go private and if so are there a lot of agencies to choose from or do you have to go county? I know nothing about KY; we are looking at FT. Knox. Thanks.

Hey Shy. I am in Etown and have lived on base and here in town. Are you looking to live on base or off? We are going through the state and as you would asume it is a headach and time consuming. Young kids come in all the time as well as older. I can give you the phone # here if you want to talk to some one. PM me if you want and I will answer what I can.

I hope you'll love the "Bluegrass" state!

Hello from KY!

I am in Jefferson County (which is less than an hour from Ft. Knox) and we are a foster/adopt family with three years / three placements under our belts. We are working with the state, so I know very little about the private agencies around here. But I have a good deal of experience with the state system (both positive and not so positive).

I'm a huge fan of our state and always like to brag on the many advantages to living here. Good wage-cost of living ratio; decent schools; lots of cultural events / arts, etc. If you'd like specific answers, post your questions or PM me, I'd be happy to give you a realistic, but hopeful, look at the area and the kids available.

KY is a great place to live and of all the areas within KY I've lived, I like Jefferson Co. with its mix of big city services and small-town friendliness. And no, it's not all sunshine and roses, but overall a good community.

thanks for the info. We would try to live on base. When I looked at rental info about the area I did not come up with too many listings that I would like to live in. We have some very good friends who were stationed at Knox; they loved it and spoke highly of the schools on base.
We attempted to go through the county here to do the foster/adopt and it turned into a living nightmare!!! Ended with our filing a complaint and having a broken heart. My husband has said if we are going to do foster/adopt we are going to go private so we can avoid another mess, but I know in some areas that is not an option.

If you are going to live on base you won't be able to foster state kids. On the other hand you can be a foster home for ther base but you will not be able to adopt any. It is very confusing and really depressing. we ended up buying a house here so we could do foster/adopt. What are you looking to rent, #bedrooms and such. Did you only look at Radcliff(that is the town right outside base) or did you look at the surrounding areas? Just let me know what you need.
