We were placed with a 5-year old girl on Sunday (Our first placement! Yayy!) She was taken from her mom on Sunday and they told me something about 72 hour something (not sure what that is) But I am so worried they are going to take her so soon...if she had relatives wouldnt she have stayed with them? (i believe when i got the call they said that I would get her unless they had someone to take her when the CW got up there) The girl told me that her dad is in jail or was in jail (her story changes) and her mom tried to commit suicide or at least threatened it.
Can someone explain any of the processes I will be going through and what to expect? |

The SW has to go in front of a judge within 72 hours of taking the child in order order the child as a ward of the state.
After that they will be investigating what family members are willing to and able to take the child. Family members (if there are any) will start calling the SW and then they will be doing home checks and background checks to see if there is anyone out there who is appropriate. That process can take days or weeks depending on how efficient your state is in getting it done. Jami |

Or since you said the mother might have attempted suicied, she could be on a 72 hr hold for observation on a psych unit and they needed placement for the child
