Low Cost outings for the kids

Do you have any super saver summer ideas? Post them here.

In Cherokee County, GA there is this place called Jump Party that you can bring the kids to for $5 per day per child. It is a bounce house company that has about 6 different indoor bounce houses. My kids all love it. They get to run around jump and slide and are able to scream till their hearts content.

This is perfect for summer and they have a parent night out 2 times a month.. (It's a bit expensive, but... maybe they will lower their prices )

I am going to look into their super saver jump program you get 10 visits for $40 and they dont care how many kids come w/ you!!!!!!

Our local library seems to be the place to hear about summer activities for kids. Of course, the library has their own stuff going on, but they seem to always know about the free movie day at the local theatre and other park activities. Try them for a resource.

We bought an annual membership to Zoo Atlanta for $89 and we can go anytime for a year for free. We just bring a picnic and go early in the morning.

mine love to go to our local farmer and pick our own strawberries. It can be a two day event--pick one day and make jelly the next. I googled a simple recipe that did not include canning. The kids really enjoy doing this.

I went looking for local historial sites and checked for their special events. Most of them are free too :-D

We also have a zoo membeship for the Columbus Zoo ($64) . We live really close to a park that has free activities in the summer. Our local library has their summer reading program going on and all my kids are signed up for that. Right now the kids are taking swimming lessons through the American Red Cross. (Free !) We have a dollar movie theater that we try to get to once or twice a month.
I purchased some arts and crafts for everyone (very affordable ) and the neighborhood kids participate. So far we've painted t-shirts, made sidewalk chalk murals, and decorated flip-flops. Next week we're decorating tote bags for our library books and having a neighborhood water battle.

Another idea is look for annual memberships to local museums. I also live in Columbus, OH and in addition ot our zoo memebrship, we joined COSI, our science museum for the kids. (J's in love at the moment since we have a Star Wars exhibit there.)

We also have this place called Recreations Outlet that sells those super expensive backyard playsystems. They have an indoor showroom that is free to visit year round. It's a greta way to let them burn off some of that energy without worrying about suncreen.

Finally, look for local vacation bible schools. Many are free and if you ask your neighbors they can probably point you to some good ones.

Blessings,
Jenny

We have the zoo memebership, do the library outings, but what the girls love is our local movie theater does free movies (G & PG rated) on Tues. and Wed. They are movies that are older, but we bring our own snacks and they love it.

If your kids like animals take them to the local Humane Society to walk dogs. This provides free entertainment for the kids while doing a service project at the same time. My kiddos love to do this!

Like the pp said I know that the church I go to in Bedford MA, the First Baptist, has a great Vacation Bible School that the kids LOVE from 9-3 ages 2.9 to 12 for only 10$ a child or 20$ a family. They have a ton of fun and parents get a nice break. I just wanted to second how great the VBS camps are.

Our local theater also does free movies on Wednesday mornings. And our church does VBS at the end of July, it's free and is from 6- 8:30 pm. This isn't free but cheap, we go to our local city pool for $1.50 a piece and swim for 4 hours. They are worn out by the time we get home. Our county has their 4-H fair next month. The kids enjoy seeing the animals, tractors, and they love the petting zoo. It's free if you don't count the "million" dollars you need to feed everyone if you choose to go at meal time. One other thing is we live close to an amusement park and people who work there get free passes for Thursdays, this includes rides and/or water park. Two kids in our youth group work there and are always willing to give us passes. Again this can be free, unless you choose to eat/drink there.

Now that its warm we like to go swimming. There is a pool near by that charges 1.50 per adult and kids 5 and under is free. I love to go in the afternoon. We also have the zoo pass.. we got the family pack which includes us and any child that comes with us and one free adult that does not live with us. I love going with my friend.
