I have 2 cousins who work with group homes. And kids are a business. Very sad but it's true. That being said, I have an 8 yo (got him when he as 6) who was "molested" by his brother. He acted out a little. I still question what happened since he hasn't acted out more. The bd molested a son and daughter (not the son I have) and DSS thinks that another brother molested the son I have. You never know!!

In the ISP, the cw wanted to place the girls and the boy in our home for foster care as soon as the class was complete however this met with a lot of resistance from the group home. Our CW is new and, at this point, I think she is just going along with the more experienced group home worker. I'm going to let this lay for a little while... we go to court in september and I will be there to talk to the judge. I have a lot of documentation and the girls want to stay with me. I will see what I can do then. If we continue to argue and fight for just every other weekend I'm afraid it will just hurt the girls that much more but once I can have them full time... look out!
I don't know if I sd this before but the CW also noticed how the group home was acting and talked to me alone after the ISP. I think she has the same plan going as I do... wait til the class is complete and then move them.

We have a great deal of trouble working with group homes and residential treatment facilities. We have the same problems of their slow and often sabotaged transitions. We take only clean breaks, now. Most of ours get kicked out, a few "graduate" the program. With these, we have rarely have any contact with the home. It works much better.
We have been strong advocates against group/residential placements for years. It's an artificial environment with high staff turn over, shifts, and inconsistent rules. Kids need to connect to real world parents in a community with something that will last for the rest of their lives. I'm sure that the 22 year old who just called me when his mother dies wouldn't get any help from a group home. |
