OMG - could we possibly avoid a trial???

My 15 year old foster son went to his dad's for a visit this morning, and here is what he reported: First of all, his dad has been very "sure" he's going to win the TPR, but today for the first time he broke down in tears and said that he had finally faced the fact that he is going to lose his kids in 2 weeks. THEN (and this is really important, as you may remember that I posted he's really keen on sending A. to live with an aunt 7 hours away) he asked A. if he WANTS to move to P.R. A said that he does NOT (good for him), and reminded his dad that if he stays with us he'll only be just down the street and can visit more. At that point his dad asked "Are you happy there, son? You seem like you really ARE happy." A. said (caustiously) that he was, and dad said "Maybe you are better off there. Would you rather stay there than come home?" HOLY COW! Can he be coming to a realization?? A said, but apparently without much enthusiasm "Yes, I still want to come home" and Dave said "You'll always be close by, but maybe I should talk to K. (the social worker". Of cousre, I don't know if this IS what happened since all I've got is A's word - but it really does sound like maybe dad is putting him first - and EVEN finding a way to let him go without making him feel more rejected! He also said that he was "jealous" because he have given A. more in terms of material things that he can afford to give. I do actually feel some compassion - that must be a crummy feeling. At this point I'm really willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and believe that his motiations and intentions are good, even if he does *do* everything possible wrong.

WOW!!!! I am praying it really is true and that he won't fight it! It is nice to hear (hopefully) good things come from what were yucky situations!
