Unhappy Overnight Visit

UGH! My lil guy is on an overnight visit with his bio mom 2nite and I can't stand it! We meet at a nearby gas station and AS SOON AS we pulled in the parking lot and my Prince Charming saw where we were (he's 14 months and I've had him for 3 months now), he starts crying and screaming, "Mama." About broke my heart. On top of that he (and me either) is not feeling well AT ALL. Of course, I worry that his mom won't sit and rock him like I would or that she WILL and he won't want her to or that she's gonna drag him out and about when he's feeling so yucky or that he won't settle down and she'll lose her temper with him or ignore him completely or........yeah, I know, I gotta let it go and pray, pray, pray. Sorry had to get it all said. I already feel a little better. Now I need to go feed my 3 month old fd. Happy Mother's Day to everyone! Thanks for this forum; ya'll have gotten me through sooooooooo much you will never know!

He's home...long vent (sorry!)

My hubby and I, our daughters, and our 2 fd picked up Prince Charming yesterday after my girls' softball tourney ended. He was in good spirits as soon as he saw us, which is always the case. (For those of you who don't know: "A" was removed at birth so he has NEVER lived at home or really even gotten to know his bio mom...and bio dad is pretty much outta the picture!) His mom said that "A" was pretty tired because they had worn him out at the park and that's all the info we got from her. After we got back home, I noticed that "A's" eczema was horribly, horribly raw, red, and irritated. Worse than I have ever seen it flared, honestly. Added some Aveeno to a cool bath and then drenched him in his eczema medication, Caladryl (just in case it's not only an eczema flare-up!). He was really tired so I tried to lay him down about 9pm....I think he finally got to sleep around 2am and then only briefly. He kept waking up screaming and crying uncontrollably. I think we probably got about 3 hours sleep total. I don't know if it was his rash bothering him or what. I called his CW to see if she could find out if 1.) His bio mom used his ointment the way I had told her to or 2.) if it's possible he got into some poison ivy or oak or something. Problem is...if she DIDN'T use the meds that way she should have, she won't wanna admit to that and that really would be a simple fix- just means I need to be especially diligent with the lotion for the next day or so until we get it back under control. But I imagine she'll say she used it correctly and then that means there's a DIFFERENT reason he's so broken out right now which means extra doc visits, possible blood work, extra meds, etc. UGH!

And now he's scheduled for a 2 NIGHT visit beginning this coming Friday night. Oh Lord. How can anyone think any of this trauma these little ones have to go through is a GOOD THING??!?!? His mom has had 26 months now to get her older children back and 15 for "A" just cause that's how old he is but now that SHE'S ready, hey, that means this poor little guy has to go every weekend for several days at a time with a complete stranger and leave the family he knows and has bonded with. STUPID!

Thanks for caring everyone!

cheern,

what your son maybe experiencing is a stress reaction with the eczema and the visit. When our bodies are under a high stress state it finds it's weakest spot to come out. And with your son it's his skin and eczema. She may have even put a different lotion on his skin or in his bath water. She may have thought she was doing right by him but caused a bigger problem. Unfortentally for your son.

I would suggest taking pictures of his skin before and after visits. Document the dates also. Keep a really good log of his behaviors and emotions after visits too. This way you have documented prove of the pudding if this is in "the best insterrest of your son or NOT."

Contuine beginning the great mom you are. Your doing a super job.

I am sorry that your family and the little one is going through all of this. I remember oh so well going to unsupervised visits, then overnight and then 2 night etc... how awful it was...counting down the hours... OK, she'll be back in 23 hours, 20 hours.....once I wake up it will be 9 hours etc.... just rips your heart out.

I agree with pp, excema can be triggered by stress. Keep posting!
