Mother's Day gift ideas

We have two foster daughters. One is two years old the other nine weeks old. I would like to get something for their mothers for Mother's Day but I do not have any ideas. I thought about a framed picture but I send them pictures during their visits every week so I would like to do something different. I do not have a lot of money to spend but would like to do something for them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I did a simple card with Bug's hand print last year. Let me tell you it was not easy to get a hand print on a 4 month old! I think I did his foot too. Anyway, something like that is something I would treasure, so I did that for her. I don't know how she felt about it because I never saw her again...but I hope she did.

For Christmas I bought a kit from a hobby store where you put a picture of the child on one side and put their hand print in clay on the other. The clay doesn't harden until you cook it, so you can keep redoing it until it looks good. If you hold their fingers up and press the palm down and then the fingers it works better. The kit was about $16.

maybe you could get a picture with the kids and their mom together and find a nice window boxed frame, and then get some scrapbooking stickers (get the good kind, you may only need a few) to stick around it, like flowers or maybe something that may say mom on it, have the two year old draw a picture and put it in... or have the two children do a butterfly, with different color paints, with their hands side by side, cut it out and put in the frame with the picture of the three of them... you will have a gift she can proudly hang on the wall...

you could even just do a nice poem that is fitting.

I love the Willow Tree Angel figurines - I usually buy them at Hallmark. They seem to have one for every occasion!

My daughter has a stuffed animal that has a recording of her bsister's voice saying 'I love you sis'. I'm not sure where you get the toys with recorded messages though. I guess you could make a casette (or CD) with her talking or singing, or a video except I don't know how you could make that a Mother's Day theme with such young baby/child.

Thank you all for your gift ideas. I did end up finding the picture frame that has the hand impressions this morning at the hobby store. They were even on sale! I got one for each of their mom's and they turned out really cute, they will love them. I will keep reading this thread and making mental notes for Mother's Day next year. Thank you all so much. I am sure next month I will be posting for Father's Day ideas.

We have thought about this, but are not really sure we should do anything. Bmom has not seen the kids since Jan. Nor has she been in contact w/ SW in a month. She's gone AWOL again. Do we make something and leave it at DFC office in case she shows up again? Or just forget it?

I made A's handprint with acrylic paint that I got from Walmart for 44cents. I put a handprint on both pages of the card inside. I then drew a line from one handprint to the other and wrote "I love you this much". It is really cute. I hope his mom likes it.
