Hi ladies! I found this website the other night when I was sitting here crying thinking this fostering will never go right. When I say "go right" I mean I am scared to death we are going to be denied.
I am 29 years old and hubby is 36. We have been trying for our own baby since we got married 5 years ago. After 2 miscarriages and failed cycles, we found foster/adoption will be the best option for us now. The last of March we called DSS and told them we wanted to foster and they sent us the paperwork. We filled it out (my goodness the paperwork!!!) and sent it back. DSS has done one homestudy with us and we are waiting to go to class in May and fire/sanitation should be here before the 18th and our final homestudy will be the 25th at 10am. Although I am very very excited about this, I am trying not to get real excited because I know something could happen and we will be denied and it will devestate us! When I asked DSS about being denied he said the only thing at this point that would get us denied is our criminal background check coming back negative (which it wont) Although I do fear that my weight will get us denied (I am obese) but my dr. filled out the medical report stating we would be great parents. I guess I dont have any questions or comments, just wanted to say this makes me feel a little more at ease about the whole thing and Im glad I found ya! |

I don't think your weight will have any bearing on whether you can foster or not, especially if your doc gave you a clean bill of health.
Welcome to the foster care roller coaster! |

If you did the fertility treatements...welcome to the world of being a big mommy! I know they made me gain LOTS of weight and I would be classified as obese as well. It never mattered because like you, my doctor gave us the thumbs up as parents too.
Good luck to you and welcome!

I really don't think the weight issue will be a problem. If it were really that much of an issue, there would be far fewer foster parents. When we go to foster parent trainings, I always feel right at home, if you know what I mean?
Welcome to foster care. It's a strange, lovely world! And I have to say, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE your name. Take a look at my signature and you'll know why! ![]() |

Hi,
Glad you found us! ![]() This site has been a God send getting thru the tough moments of fostering! Its nice to know someone has gone or is going thru exactly what you are. We also went the fostering route after not getting preg. for 8 years then 2 years of fertility treatments then my body not liking the fertility drugs and ended up VERY very sick - almost went blind. That being said - if it is meant to be and we concieve naturally great - well do both. I am also very overweight and actually never thought about it until recently. I have never let it interfer with anything I have ever done or considered doing. I can't imagine that it would interfer with your approval. And if it does I am sure that there are some BB right attorneys out there who would love to take on your case and fight DSS...as that would totally be descrimination - if you are fit in every other way, and have your doctors approval. Good luck with your homestudy - it really isn't as bad as they make you think it is going to be.

No worries! You should go to a support group to set your mind at ease. You've never seen so many "fluffy mommies" in one room at one time! Foster care is very welcoming of people with nice, soft laps. :-)
