My husband's ex wife signed custody of her 2 kids over to my relatives and agreed to let them raise them. This was 2 years ago. Prior to that, they had them through DFCS while she "got it together". 13 days after DFCS gave them back to her, she signed them over to them before DFCS took them back! Prior to that, they were living with us through a voluntary placement because she was suicidal. These kids were malnourished, nasty, neglected, you name it, they had it. She has 5 kids and NONE of them live with her. She has been in rehab for drugs, no car, no job, lives in a nasty trailer park and is in her 5th marriage to a guy she met on a porn website while she was stripping.

THis week, my relatives were served with papers saying that she wants custody back. Courts tend to favor mothers, but does anyone know anything about this?
We live in GA. They are contesting it, so they will have to go to court.

Any advice would be helpful. These kids have just gotten settled down, they live in a big beautiful house and are so happy.

No advice, just sending prayers that these children will continue to stay where they are happy, healthy and in peace.

Did the family adopt them or just get permanent custody? I would think if this went to court, her past history would be brought up and is obviously not positive. If the kids are adopted, I wouldn't think she'd have a leg to stand on! I'm not an expert, just my .02!

From my understanding if the family members hae legal custody, she would need to show that they are unfit as parents or that she is a "better" parent than they are...

I am not a lawyer or anything but I will keep these kiddies in my prayers.
