TPR hearing today! My girls are coming home!!!!!!!!!

I just got a call from the CASA office telling me that the TPR for the girls was granted and that the judge ordered that B and C be placed with me ASAP!

I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that all 3 girls will be able to live under the same roof after being seperated for the last two years.

I am so very grateful, not to mention happy, that the girls will be with me and that I will be their new Mom. They have been through so much and they deserve to be happy. Don't get me wrong, they love their bio-mom very much but they know that she will not keep them safe. They will still get to see bio-mom on supervised visits because the adoption will be open.

I forgot to add that the judge ordered a full range of services to make sure that whatever I needed to make the girls transition here was taken care of.

At this point it looks like they will be home the weekend of the Feb 16th!

It is going to take some doing on my part to get the house all set up for them. I am in the process of building an addition for them to give them their own bedroom space but it won't be finished for at least a month to a month 1/2. The SW objected to the transition being so soon because of the space issue but the judge looked at the sq. footage of my home and said I'll manage even if I have to stuff everyone in while waiting for the rooms to be finished. I will probably have to put up two sets of bunk beds and stick 3 girls in each bedroom for now. Not ideal but the girls say it is better than living at the group home. Apparently the judge felt the same way.

Another issue I have to overcome is that C is having surgery on her knee soon and will need 24hr care for a while. This is fine, I can do that I am just concerned because I am a full time college student and won't be able to attend classes because C can not be left alone. The SW said I will have to put her in daycare when she goes back to school because DCYF policy states that a child can not be home alone no matter what the age. Can you imagine? A 16yr old in day care? Any advice on this?

Anyway I am thrilled and I know the girls will be too.

Maybe you could get the 16 year old an after school job or something so she's not in Daycare?

look for a local Girls Club OR contact a local daycare and see if they have a job(even if is only volunteer). If it is volunteer, does she need community service hrs for high school?

Do you have a local YMCA that she can go to? Alot of them have after-school activities for kids that are adult supervised.

Also, what about volunteering at the local public library?

That is so great that your kids are coming!!! I'm so excited for you all!

Yah!!!!! What a day! What excitement!

B is 13 and we have the same problem with afterschool time. What we found and courts and DCF helped with was a mentor! B loves her mentor and they do great things together, and B is also building some better socail skills and has a big sister to share things with.

Ones again, Congrats! Keep us posted.
