Have a question about workers?

I know my foster son has a worker. I have my worker comming tomorrow. I have had my foster son since June and this is the first time I am meeting her. She said she has my binder and my foster care lisense to give me and to meet me. What does she do just ask how things are going or go through your house? Please answer soon she is comming 9:00 tommorow morning.

Ours usually just comes and chats for a little while. Sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes and hour. It just depends on her schedule and how well you get along. Relax, they usually don't bite and it goes by pretty quick.

Unbelievable!

I can't believe you haven't had a visit from your worker yet, having a child since June?!

We picked our child up on a Friday, and had visits the next week, then 2 weeks after that, then 4 weeks after that, and then monthly.

I think it is scary that they are not visiting more often--in the first place because as fp we need support and feedback about our kids and their cases, and in the second place because that is how so many kids in foster care end up poorly cared for or even abused--because no one is monitoring the fparents!

I don't mean you or anyone in particular, of course, but we all know some people foster for the wrong reasons and need to be monitored a bit more often than every 6 months!

I wouldn't panic about the visits--our worker did ask to see our fson's bedroom, but other than that did not look around. The visits are fact-finding missions for the info they need to put in the child's file--how he is doing developmentally, when he was last at the doctor, etc.

Good luck, and I hope your worker is worth the wait!

My worker is required to come out 2x's per month. I talk to her on the phone like once per week on top of that.

Now my foster daughter's worker on the other hand, we never see or hear from. I think that's absolutely absurd. Her superviser has been out twice and I've had this baby for 9 almost 10 months.

Normally when my worker comes she plays with the baby and asks me if I need her to look into anything. She also takes the diaper reciepts that I have and any medical forms. She's really nice and resourceful. She even has to come out twice per month if I don't have any children in the home. I think that's a great idea!

She's also referred my services (I do daycare in the home) to other foster parents in my area!

Robin - I had my fs for 7 months before I had a home visit. She look at the kids room and then sat in my living and talked to us for about 15minutes. No big deal.
