home day care and fostering?

I have read alot of you say that you do home day care as awell as foster.I wanted to do that but they told me I could not.Is anyone doing this in the state of Florida?? The department that deals with home day cer has no problem with it but it is the foster agency's that say you cant do it.
Also do you know if you can do special needs placements as well as regular placements? I was told you had to choose one type or the other.

Day care licencing and foster care licencing vary from state to state. In North Carolina we can do both, but if the laws conflict then the most restrictive rule is the one we must follow. The only problem I have had is that my day care kids count in my foster care numbers - so even though i have no bio children - i can only be licenced for one foster child.
You'll have to check to see what your specific state laws are. Try calling your local child care services and they can usually tell you who to call at the state level.
good luck!

I live in California, and we can be licensed for both. I know some states only allow one or the other. Our foster kids count in our daycare numbers, as do our biological children, so if I have three kids living with me, than that is three less I can take into my home daycare.
