The Baby Is Coming Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the call on October 6th. I have waited by the phone since. I got another crib steralized bottles, I put another dresser in the room. I got a call today saying the baby will be ready for release on Friday. She said she is is sorry she has not called. She actually forgot about the baby until they called. She said I better give Mrs ...... a call. I have been waiting by the phone and she forgot. The baby was born heroin addicted is that the normal time to stay in the hospital? I ask her if she had any more information about him she said no. I guess I will find out friday. I hope hes a keeper. I'm so excited.

awesome news
How exciting. Glad to hear you have everything ready!.. I know discharge time really varies from baby to baby and it isn't necessarily related to how much heroin the mom used, just how the baby tolerates the withdrawl process. He still may need meds but they'll hook you up with all that. I'll be watching for an update, take a nap while you can.

Can you go into the hospital to meet baby, the night before discharge? Then you can get a better idea of history, and feeding.
Good luck! ![]() |

I was called today. The cw told me the baby is on morhine. They are weening him off and he is doing well so they are discharging him friday. Will he be sent home with medication if he is on morphine? Has anyone had a baby that was on morphine?

probably not
I would think he would not be on opiates (morphine) at your house. Sometimes they use phenobarbitol for babies with withdrawl symptoms but they may send him home with nothing and see how he does. It's nice if they can be without meds but when they need them - they need them. That's about everything I know - not much

BUMMER!! I bet you're disappointed! I sure would be! It is hard to wait.
Zoe had a great idea. When my son was still in the hospital (a few days before he was discharged), I asked the worker if I could go to the hospital and spend some time "getting to know him" and letting him see & smell me before he was dumped on my doorstep. It was a wonderfully bonding time. Even though he was basically non-responsive (due to injuries) it was a time for me to see him so utterly helpless and it really gave me a better picture of everything he had going on so I could be better prepared. I also got to spend time with the nurses who had cared for him and ask lots of questions. They knew things about his family that the case worker wouldn't have thought to tell me. The sw had to call the hospital and tell them it was okay for me to see him and I had to present ID at the hospital. |

I just wanted to leave you a note to say congrats!!
I know how excited you must be... we picked up our fd when she was just five days old. We are going through a private foster care organization and they allowed us to drive to Houston with the director to pick her up. It was a wonderful experience. My husband took the day off and went with us. They even let my mom come. She is a healthy and chubby little four month old now. We go this next month with our case worker to take her for another visit with the ** in prison. I can't say that I am looking forward to it, but I am so glad that they allow me to go with her. It was nice getting to meet her ** and finding out things that I was wondering. It was not the total horrible experience I had made it out in my mind to be. We don't know what the future holds for our fd and us. We pray every day that we get to keep her. We have a very large extended family that has grown to love her like crazy. She is truly amazing... to be so perfect and to look at what she came from. It is truly God's work there. We just enjoy every single minute with her. You do the same. They are very precious children.
