Giving private info to b-parents need to vent!!!

I am sooo angry . Today I get this bill from a collection agency. I call. They said its regarding one of my fd that left over a year ago to ru with parents (in april of 2004). I contact the hospital were the bill came from . Found out that the service was done in Aug of 2004, 4 months after she went home. They said that the family put my Name, address and phone number on the responsible party to pay. Im angry, that means the sw must have given them my info. When the parents went to the hospital, I have sold my house and moved (of course they did not know that) so they could not find us and thats how a collection agency got involved. The hospital is going to pull it off from the collection and are going to investigate and try to find the parents to bill them. Im trying to buy another home and I dont want things like this on my credit.

Its just scary that they have my info. The hospital said that they did not have my ssn. I called the sw (im glad I keep copies of all info on the child) and she is going to see what can be done. I dont want them to use my name for other things. Plus they are very violent people (they were not even suppose to have our names). They both have mental issues. Any suggestion would be great. Sorry just needed to vent. Im just hoping I dont get any more bills.

Did you ever take the child to the same hospital? This almost happened in reverse to me. We took the child and when I reviewed the form they had the parents info. They just pulled the child's record up and did not confirm the information - even though I had filled out paperwork with my info.

Are you considering following this up with a police report for fraud or a phone call to the social worker?

No I have never taken her to a hospital ever. I did talk to the agency I went through and they are thinkin I should report this to the police. They are mentally not stabled and Im afraid they will do this again. I did talk to the a sw, unfortunetly her sw no longer is a sw. They are talking over with a supervisor and see what can be done. The thing is they mispelled my name and I know sw does have my correct spelling of my name.

shycar ~ I think lambeausam and the agency brought up a good point. I would definitely file a police report about this. It is identity theft and you need to have it on the record. If they do it again it will be a second offense and the penalty will be stiffer when they are caught.

I am so sorry you are going through this. It is scary and a violation.

Sorry you are going through this! I would just be sure you have a current copy of your credit report from all the major credit agencies, because sometimes things will show up on one and not the other.

I was talking with our kids bmom after the adoption about our kids sibs and she said she knew where 2 of them live.....she was at WIC getting vouchers for herself when she was pregnant with our youngest and the older kids names and address came up on the screen. She memorized it that quick .....she never tried to contact them or anything like that, but could have been bad if she were different.

I would agree to report it to police. I am curious and concerned why if they are unstable the child went home to them?
