have you looked into Futons? They are usually cheaper and just as comfy! I've slept on one for years.

Also, here in Canada the Salvation Army sells new mattress at their stores at more then 1/2 price off.

Good luck!

As far as the futon goes, I would have no prob sleeping on one my self, but since we have a son already and he has a vary nice queen size bed, I would feel strange telling our new child, here you go Kid, you get the Futon.... So im looking for a full size bed or queen if possible.
I will check the Salvation Army, thats a great Idea, Thanks!

Another idea would be to check for a store that sells 'less than perfect' mattresses. You know, the ones the big names companies can't sell in their retail stores, but are still good to sleep one.

Another thought is Sam's Club or a similar warehouse store. They usually have great prices.

We bought our mattressat sams Club. We are licensed for 6 kids so we needed 6 mattresses. We looked around and found Sam's club to be the best price, at $89.00 or $150 for box spring an Mattress. Luckily by husband is handy and he made 4 sets of bunk beds.

I would go for 2 twins vs a queen or full.

Check with your licensing criteria before deciding on types of beds. As Jackie mentioned, she can't use bunkbeds. In Illinois, we cannot use futons and trundlebeds must remain open to be considered permanent bedding.

Wow no bunkbeds in MD?? I guess it depends on where you live, the set that I got can be used as 2 twin beds also, but we are allowed to use them here in NC, but the others are right, you should check to be sure what is allowed, I would still try Freecycle.org, I always see listings for beds of all types to be given away, and its a free site, everything must be free, whether you give or recieve

There is also a web site www.craigslist.org people on here sell all kinds of things for real cheap. and alot of the stuff is real nice. they have different locations to choose from. I would see if there is one in your area. Its great to find more than mattresses, I have purchased cribs, car seats, strollers etc....

Are you looking for just a mattress or a whole bed?

We are allowed to have bunkbeds here in PA and even futon beds. I have two sets of bunkbeds in my home. The second set of bunkbeds is the futon style one, only instead of using a futon mattress I just bought a full sized mattress.

I haven't encountered mattresses being so expensive here. I've seen sets (mattress and box spring) for $100.

Also check your local thrift stores, Salvation Army etc. A lot of times they get donations (brand new) or extras that are in really good condition!

Thanks for the information everyone.. I went to Sam's and looked at mattresses and they do have a great price. Like $90 for a Serta twin mattress.

I have also decided to take the advice of buying twin's instead of another queen.

I joined Freecycle.org today as well.

Thank you all.

Hey TexasBob, this is TexasJingles!! Isn't that funny! WOW!

We also bought new (bunkbeds for the 2 boys, a twin with a bookcase headboard for the girl).

Our homestudy worker, as well as all the workers that have come into our home have been amazed that we bought new! I just never even thought of buying a used mattress. Not that I have anything against a good "cleaned" used mattress (dh and I sleep on one from his mother's house), but we just went into foster-adopt thinking we'd do this for bio children, so why not?

We got the bunkbeds at a smaller furniture place (not the cheapest because they looked like rough raw 2X4's bolted together, but the kind that are half wood and half metal). We got the twin bed at Wal-mart and the mattress for it at a small discount mattress retailer for I think $85?

Glad you're getting kids soon (or so it sounds). This is a great place for advice, or just support when things go haywire! Take it easy!

Do you have an IKEA? They have very inexpensive beds and mattresses. Mostly they require a platform bed (which they also sell pretty cheap). I think you get get a bed frame & mattress for under $200 total.
