ETA: the police were called out because of one of the older kids had run away, and was found a few blocks away.

What I read, says that the complaint that brought the police to the house was not being discussed.. and this example was listed as a previous call to house, last year. Totally unrelated.

This just released an hour ago...

Quote:
Caged Children UpdateSeptember 19, 2005 - NORWALK, Ohio (AP) - The sheriff in Huron County said today that some of the eleven special-needs adoptive children kept in cages at night also were confined there as daytime punishment.
Sheriff **** Sutherland said in a statement after a meeting with investigators that the cages, called "boxes" by the parents, were unlocked but were rigged with alarms. He says the children wouldn't try to get out for fear of an angry reaction by parents.

The sheriff says no charges have been filed. He says charges must await psychological and psychiatric test results on the children.

The children were moved from the home of Michael and Sharen Gravelle of Wakeman last week. The parents say they never harmed their children and the enclosures were meant as a secure environment for the children while the parents slept at night.

There was an article that talked of the adult birth child of the father's speaking out about the abuse she went through. There is also a report that the mother filed for divorce claiming abuse to the kids.

It's terrible!

honestly a child endangering another child doesn't give a parent a right to "cage" them in such a small space.

I believe in normal sized bedrooms for children who need their own room with an alarm on the door and locks on the inside of everyone else's door.

In our home dangerous things: chemicals, knives, etc, get put up high and locked away. Not children.

it really sounds like this couple had too much on their plate and were in over their heads. What on earth drove them to lock their children in cages. How could that be part of a safety plan.

Hardly what I would consider "bright primary colors". In anohter article it stated the room(s) smelled of urine.

Yeah... green totally isnt primary. Really ridiculous that that would even be mentioned.. Like.. Yes, they were in cages, sleeping in their own urine.... BUT... at least they painted them BRIGHT PRIMARY COLORS...

Oh... ok then.. in THAT case.....

Angry shocked

I am going to be try to be kind, This is sick, abusive, and unforgivable, a four foot cage with a lock on it, to justify this or to try to find reason is unthinkable. I am shocked that there are post in this thread doing it.

I won't say anymore, andi

I hope anyone isn't still waiting to reserve judgement?!!!???

:x This is horrible. The article said that the pigs cage was larger than the one for the children.

There were all kinds of reg flags going up and still no one investigated properly. Absolutely terrible.

Gosh, I hope my post wasn't seen as supporting them.

Its amazing the bias articals can use to totally sway a reader's opinion....like the "bright primary colors." Who cares anyway. The kids were in boxes!

Sad.

Very true Amy. I feel really sad for the children. I pray that they are in better homes now and that they are being taken care of properly.

Do we know the whole story yet about this family? No. There are many missing peices yet. Let's not judge to hastly until we have all the answers.
I think the link Kiwi posted should be enough to fill in those "missing pieces." I'd say I've read enough and followed the story enough that I can make a decision that I would not want my animals put in something like that...much less my children.

Caging children and working with patients who have dementia don't even relate, IMO.

There is NO JUSTIFICATION for what those poor children were exposed to...NONE.

There is nothing on the net that I could find. I hope the children are doing well and getting the love they deserve after being moved.
