I get asked this question everytime we go out! We also get asked "Are you a daycare?" Expecially over the summer school break. I try not to get affended because when you see 11 kids together with parents, people wonder. The nice thing is alot of times people can not believe how well behaved they are. (thats on a good day) I rarely tell people we are a foster family we are just a family. There is a wonderful website with funny comebacks for large familes. I think I'll use "Why do you ask?" if it ever comes up. The only comment I've gotten was from an old man in the grocery store. I had one in the cart and was wearing the other. He said, "after my wife and I had the fourth child, we figured out what was causing it and got a TV!"
It cracked me up because I know he meant no offense. He just assumed they were both mine, even though one is african american and the other caucasian... and too close in age for it to be a physiological possibility.

Yeaterday we took our children to the amusement park (first time ever for my foster kids they were amazed!) As I was standing in line to go on a ride with my Fd A 6 (she is AA and we are CC) A little girl in line also AA looked at me than asked my Fd "is that your mommy?" my Fd responded "yea and you got something to say about it she is the best mommy in the whole world!" so out of the mouths of babes....it was funny! With that settled the 2 girls chatted in line like best friends than rode the ride together.
