Help!! New Placement
I got two beautiful little boys yesterday. J is 3 and H is 20 mo. So that makes total kids 5. I must be crazy!! The problem is that little H has 6 teeth in the front that are almost completely rotton. The SW wants to wait to Monday to do anything about it. He cried all day yesterday, He did sleep most of the night with help from Motrin and orajel. Not real sure if the tears are totally from the teeth or not. He is still on a bottle and will not drink frim a sippy. The only thing that I have been able to get him to drink is diet coke. Any ideas as to what I can do to help this little man? The teeth are so bad that I really don't think there will be anything that they can do, but pull them.

I have had a fc come with rotten teeth too. It takes forever to get them into a pediatric dentist to have them out. It is best to have them pulled so they don't damage the permanent teeth (the rot can extend through infection). I would work to pull any and all strings I could if I were you.
Unfortunately the soda, even diet, may be making the pain worse. The carbonation can hurt. My son went though this as a result of VERY soft teeth, an uniformed mom (me) and a LOT of antibiotics at a young age (almost constant from birth due to constant ear infections). We pulled them before he started crying about the pain - at age 2 1/2. And we also put tubes in his ears so he wouldn't damage his permanent teeth with more antibiotics. His teeth grew back in about age 5-6 and they look great now at age 17 next week. One note, you may also need to consider speech therapy at the appropriate time so he learns how to speak without his front teeth. It's a challenge, but doable. Good luck. |

Diet Coke, try to water it down a bit so he can get less sugar. I have a 2 yr old who I call my "Junk food junkie". She lost 2 lbs the first month she was here, then gained it right back. Everytime we have cookies or a sugary treats, she steals the other kids and shoves it into her mouth as fast and she can get it through her little lips. BTW, I have 7 kids right now. M 9yrs, K5yrs, D 2yrs (all Bio) L 2yrs, A 10 wks, K 12 yrs and K 5 yrs. (all FC). That is crazy!!!! but fun!!!!

How sad! Make sure the cw documents this in the child's record.
You'll need to be ringing somebody's phone off the hook to get help! Call you pediatrician and see if they'll see him and help get you in with a ped dentist. If you have to, take him to th ER. There's no sense in this child suffering! If you can, don't put him to bed with a bottle...that can only make things worse. Keep us posted. |

Hey all!! I did carry the little fellow to the ER last night. They said that there was nothing that they could do for him. This was said before they looked into his ears, throat or even listened to his chest. I had to make to Dr do all of those things. I also told him that I was not leaving until they did a drug screen on the little man. Praise the Lord it was neg. I think the teeth were only half of the little fellows problems. I think that there is definately some dev delays. He screemed nostop from Fri afternoon to Mon AM. It was so bad that my step daughter, bio son and FD were all very upset all weekend. After many tears and calls to my support worker we had to request that he be removed. It was the hardest decision that I have ever struggled with. I have been an emotional basketcase all day. The good news is all my other children are back to normal. I just hope and pray that the 2 boys can find someone that can help them with all there many needs.
