Compliance Hearing
Can anyone explain to me what happens at this kind of hearing?
I have a beautiful fd that I have had almost a month. Mom's compliance hearing is 8/17. So far she has not done 1 thing to comply with the judges order. Today at a visit she asked me was I prepared to keep d for longer than 6 months (that was the orginal time frame). Will they give her more time to complete her process? Mom is ilegial. What can I expect? MkChic

How long has the child been in foster care? If she is new to the system, in the state of Missouri, the mother is given 12 months to work her treatment plan. If at the end of the 12 months she has not complied and cooperated with DFS to complete the items on her treatment plan, then DFS has to look for other options to achieve a permenant situation for the child. The only way that I am aware, that the child could be adopted any sooner is if mom voluntarily terminates her rights, but even then the process can take awhile to get through the court system. One thing I have found is that none of the agencies working for the best interest of the child get in any kind of hurry. We've had our fd for two years, since birth, and are just now getting ready for a termination hearing in September. If birthmom appeals it, it can hold up the case for at least another year. It's a long haul, but hang in there. You have to always treat each foster placement as if they are going home. My husband and I actually work with the bio parents, trying to help them so their child can be returned to them. It's a rewarding thing to do and it is the right thing to do. These children come into our homes and our job is to care for them until they are able to be returned home. Period. I see so many posts of people who have had a child for a month or two and they are already talking about adopting that child. You must keep your focus in the right place or you will be heartbroken every time!

My fd has only been in the system for about a month. She is the youngest of six and no dad in picture. Mom has had TPR on the other 5 and they are all in different states. This is my first placement and just trying to figure out how all this works.

In SC, we have judicial review hearings to review the parents compliance. We have a 30 day hearing and then the reviews every 3-6 months. Here they need to be under a treatment plan for at least 6 months to go for TPR. BUT with that type of history we could go straight to TPR. Chances are if she is not complying and has not with th other 5, that child will be up for adoption.

I had a 3 children whose b-mom
lost her oldest 4, but not the 3 I had and for whatever reasons they have been in and out of care in 3 or 4 states and she always manages to get those 3 back.....I still don't think the 9 year old has spent a total of 1 1/2 living with his mom, but in foster care in different states (I guess her moving after she gets them returned helps or something)

I had a birth Mom move to different states after having new children, since that state did not have experience or knowledge of her past.

I do know that my temp sw has been in contact with DHR in texas to get mom's history. Three of her 6 kids are there. Is it unusual that they contact other states about mom's history? I am hoping that this helps my fd case. At visits with mom she acts like she is a friend and lets me do all the parenting, like changing diapers etc. I have seen her about 6 times over the last month and never seen her shead a tear. I would cry rivers everytime that I saw my bio kid. the ** says that she can't go to rehab without a ss#. So the child is just in limbo. It is so sad.
