Looking for foster families in Fort Worth, Mansfield, Arlington area

Hi.. My name is Tammy and my husband and I are newly licensed foster parents... we are expecting our first placement.. pretty much anytime now. It will be a new born and they have told us we now need to find a doctor...

I have never dealt with Medicaid and don't have a clue where to begin. I called my family Dr... and of course he does not take medicaid.. they gave me the number to a local JPS clinic in Arlington, and they are not taking new patients.

Does anyone know if there is a list somewhere of Peditricians or Family Doctors in the Fort Worth, Arlington, Mansfield area that accepts Medicaid? I have searched and searched all morning, and can't find anything.. I have called several places too... Tarrant County Health, the State office, and no one can tell me anything. This is kind of a joke.. I can't believe the lack of information on this.

Thanks in advance for any help. We are really excited about this.. we are going through a Private Agency and hope to be able to adopt one of the little ones we will care for.

Looking forward to meeting other foster families in my area also...

Thanks again,
Tammy

Tammy,

I had the same problem when I first went searching for a pediatrician. I live in the Plano/Allen area and called several before I found one. I told them I was a foster parent and they accepted her and I have taken all the other kids that I have had in my care. I don't know why they accepted but mentioning them being foster kids had some meaning. I don't know why it is so hard to find these doctors and that's one thing I don't think they talked much about in the classes.

Maybe mention to whomever you call that you are a foster parent and they might refer you to one who accepts Medicaid for these kids.

Good luck to you!

Thanks so much for responding.... one of the places I talked to today said that our placement agency was supposed to give us a provider booklet. I have put a call into them about that. I just didn't want to wait until we had the baby... I wanted to get the baby to the doctor pretty quick to have him/her checked out.

Thanks again,
Tammy =)

I didn't see this post as I have been busy lately, however, I have an 800 number somewhere in our paperwork for medicare providers in Texas. I'll look it up tomorrow.

Our kids have a Tarrent County CPS worker, and if you still need it, I can call her on Monday (if I can't find the 800 number).

We live in Houston (but have tarrent county kids) and I have taken them to the CPS clinic here. I tried a number of doctors (before being given the 800 #) and the clinic is easy to get in and the doctor is great with the kids. I'm sure there is one your way as well.

Take care!

Hi Texas Jingles...

That would be so awesome if you could provide me with that 800 number. I would really appreciate it. I have been spending much of my time going through the posts and reading everything. I am learning a lot, even though I know some if it won't apply here in Texas.

We are told that we will have this baby for over a year, and that after the 6 month mark, we can apply to adopt. We are kinda nervouse about it all, but excited too. I know that there is no guarantee with all of this, but we have to have faith and hope.

Thanks again so much... to both of you for responding. It is such a nice feeling knowing that I can come here and get help if I need it. I hope someday soon to know more and be able to contribute too.
