I just didn't know anyone I else I could vent to than y'all that would truely understand. Yesterday I was down at the DCFS office when they brought in 5 children that were entering care. I have seen hundreds of children come into care and have never seen anything like this before. Even some of the CW, one being there 10 yrs, has never seen this before. All of the children were filthy and stunk (seen that)...the oldest boy @ 9 had a cut between his thumb and pointer that was swollen about 10 times the size it should be and he could not move his thumb or pointer finger, the next boy age 7 had a broken arm that had some kind of spint on it that had never been changed and was beyond filthy, I will come back the next child, a 3 y/o girl that had some kind of infected sore under her eye, and a 7 month old boy whose nose was bleeding, slowly but continuously and you could just hear him wheezing and grasping for air. All of there hair was just crawling with lice. They all had already found placements when I saw them at the office but they were all headed for the hospital. I was called by a friend of mine, foster parent and hairdresser, could I please come and help her get the middle girl, age 4, cleaned up. Now let me tell you about her. Her hair was so matted with dirt, lice, scabs, that we had to shave her bald (doctors orders)...it was like shaving tree bark off a tree. She has body lice and has about itched her whole body raw. When we finally, after about 5 baths and shaving for 2 hours got her head completely shaved....her scalp was raw, infected, and swollen. Upon bathing and getting the body dirt off, she was covered in bruises and had a gash on her foot that had never been doctored and was obviously infected, was filled with dirt but was closed. She is very obviousy severly delayed and had very bad balance..although with all the infections maybe her equallibriam was off. She screamed in pain and fear almost the entire 3 hours and my heart was crying for her. When we were all done she just wanted me to hold her and said she wanted to come with me.....while I was the one trying to hold her down, the whole time we were telling her what a good girl she was and asking her about the things she liked, while my friend shaved her head. I could not take her but I am still crying just thinking about her. I know this happens but I just cannot understand how anyone could do this to a child, then DFCS just gives them a caseplan to get their children back and they are never punished. The supervisor that was there took lots of pictures and saved all the hair we had to cut off to try and get this woman arrested. I hope they do!
Sorry to ramble I just had to vent my anger and hurt this morning.

I'm sitting here crying after reading your post. This infuriates me! And what aggrivates me the most, is that IF this woman works her plan, she could get her children back. I believe in rights for bparents, but not at the expense of a child. These children will have to deal with all of this for the rest of their lives! I watch my 16 year old son struggle daily with the mess that his birth mother made for him. SO UNFAIR! I could go on and on and get *really* mean, but I won't.

I'm so sad that these children have been through so much. I hope that the courts can see that this is not a short-term indiscretion by the parents, but rather repeated neglect and abuse. In most cases, I believe a parent should have a chance to reunify with their children. However, in this case, there shouldn't even be a reunification plan.

My prayers to the children and my thanks to you and your friend for taking care of the little girl.

Thank you all for your prayers for these kids. They need all the prayers they can get. I have been trying all day to get a hold of someone to give me an update on her but you know how that goes.
Thanks again for all the support and I also hope there is no reunification plan....I also normally agree there should be a reunification plan but not in this case. This woman had the audasity to tell CPS she regularly combed this child's hair and had seen no problems with it!!!! HELLO!!!!!!!

OK all, get this when CPS called for the police to sign the paper to have the children immediately removed the officer almost did not sign saying he was not sure this was neglect. Was he blind, no sense of smell, plain dumb....of what????? One of the CW's said she was going to see if she could find out his name, as her husband is a city cop.

That is turly one of the saddest things I've EVER heard! I have never dealt with anything even close to that. I will pray for all these children.

I'm sorry to say this doesn't even surprise me. It is, unfortunately, not that unusual. I've seen this kind of thing, and worse, first hand when I was growing up. My family was extremely poor, and we lived so far from the 'right' side of the tracks we didn't know where that was. I was lucky; my parents cared. Most of the kids I knew weren't that fortunate. I knew a group of sibs who were in as bad shape as this when they got taken away. And absolutely nothing was done to their parents about it. That may be the worst part -that people can do this and get away with it!!!!! And then get their kids right back -as if nothing had ever happened.

I hope these kids are lucky enough not to have to go back.

We live in a sick world with demented people.

I pray that those children NEVER go back to that situation! Reunification, my fat rear-end!

Thank you for posting. It is very painful to be reminded of what our children suffer, but it should be in our minds when we ask ourselves, or our children, "Why are you doing that?" As Anna says, this is why. This or something like it. May God bless these innocents! And bless you for helping your friend with this little girl. How on earth would she have managed alone? It must have been difficult to attend to this baby without your sense of rage and grief being written all over your face. It is terrible how these children's dignity was ground into the dirt. God only knows what medical complications will be unearthed! Please let us know if you hear how these children are doing. Your story will haunt me. I can see it all in my mind, and it is so heart-breaking. I can only imagine how deeply disturbed you must feel, how these images are just seared into your mind. God bless you and your friend for your ministry to this little child.

How are these kids doing? My heart has been so heavy since reading your post yesterday. Although I can't believe people can do this to their own children, I live with it every day. Two of my kids had/have severe issues due to abuse and neglect.

The supervisor of the incoming unit called me late yesterday afternoon and gave me a small update. She continually thanked me for helping and of course I told her it was certainly no problem but that I was not able to sleep and had been thinking of M all day. She said that M was itching a lot less and was being placed in a theraputic home with her younger sister so that they are able to get her immediate and intense medical and phsycological help. One of the CW's in the office went to the store and bought her some pretty head scarves to cover her head and she said that M really liked them Anything to help make that child smile. The supervisor said that they had already had a meeting with the director of Bibb cnty DCFS about this case yesterday and that they are hoping to have a straight non-reunification plan (that is why she said that she called me so late in the afternoon), thank God! At least this lifted some of my anger. She also said that the mother has not even called DCFS today. She was expecting some rude call and there was not even a message. She is going to call me back this afternoon when they get through at court to let me know what happened.
HappymomAnna, what a great response the WHY??? our children are who they are.
Praying for all the children that have been and are being abused and neglected and praying that these 5 children will never see the life they had been living again.
