do any of you work while fostering infants?
if so, and you dont use a daycare facility, and just use an approved family member to babysit/childcare daily..... do you get reimbursed by the state for that, or only licensed daycares?

I work for Social Services in SC. We do not reimburse for a family member. We will only pay for an approved daycare provider, but every state is different.

so does that mean (if my state is the same) I have to choose from a list that they have come up with or I can pick a licensed facility of any kind?

I have a 4 mo old who I have had since she was 7 days old. I worked the entire time, but my LAST DAY IS THURSDAY!!! I just started to feel guilty as I have completely fallen in love with this child. I know that I am not supposed to, but I don't care, it happens.
DHS reimburses for licensed facilities only. I didn't have to pick from a list I just called the ones that I liked and asked if they took the DHS voutures, if they say 'yes' then I know that they are licensed. GOOD LUCK

In Idaho, you can not leave a child with a relative for regular care unless the relative is a licenced care giver (daycare). I can leave my fson with a friend for a few hours while are children play together but if it were every day, she would need to be a daycare provider.

I live in Georgia and my daughter(28 yrs old) is my babysitter. She had to have a drug test and criminal background check before she could watch them. She keeps them in my home.I pay her the amount that dfacs allows for unregulated childcare .It is less than half what they were paying for the daycare. They pay one hundred dollars a week for each child in daycare and My daughter gets 48 dollars a week for each one.I love it since I don't have to drag them out in the cold and they aren't exposed to so many illnesses at home.I am glad our state allows this and don't know what I would do without my daughter.I can also take a child without a lot of notice and not have to worry if theres an opening or not.

We have a mother/daughter foster team in our town. They are both licenced and live together. I think they have 5 kids in the home right now. It is a good arrangement for them.

I am in NJ and they told us we could place them with any state licenced facility. Most big named day care facilities are state approved. However, unless the state has a contract with an agency they only pay 600 per month for a day care facility and they pay 500 per month for a home care provider. I have a home care provider and I have to pay 200 per month out of my own pocket. I did find out that The Boys and Girls Club has a contract with DYFS but they are totally full. I have been on a waiting list for months! If I used them, they would accept the state payment and I wouldn't have to pay anything out of my own pocket. I couldn't find anyone else to do that out of the goodness of their hearts. However, some people from my PATH training classes have had people from local day care facilities offer to take the state payment because they thought that being a foster parent was a wonderful thing to do. In the end, I wanted to find a great place for my son - nomatter what the price. So, I looked and looked until I found a great place for him to go.

Good Luck!

You have to pick from an approved list. Daycares go apply to be on this list, which allows them to be paid by the voucher.

My in home daycare provider is licensed. She has been background checked, fingerprinted and taken courses through our county program. If you call your county childcare services they should be able to give you a list of in home and public daycare facilities.
And again, as far as large childcare facilities go...they are quite expensive and in NJ, DYFS only pays 600 per month. Places like Kindercare and such usually charge 1100 per month so you have to pay the balance. In NJ DYFS has contracts with some providers such as the YMCA. If your child goes there, you don't have to pay any balance, but I have been waiting months to get in - really long waiting list! So I guess it depends on your state. If you call your local office they should be able to tell you their policy. |

In our state (Oregon) the latest word I have is that we do not get reimbursed for daycare. We have to pay for it ourselves. There was a pilot program a couple years ago where we could have an approved daycare provider reimbursed, but that ended as of early 2004.
