FINALLY Good news!!!!
Well, IT finally happened. I emailed the DCS lawyer today to see if we were still on for YET another court date to see if the birthfather was ever going to be terminated on. The lawyer told me that the date was off, but she couldn't go into it by email as it was too much to write. She would call me.
SHe called me and told me that the birthfather's lawyer had gotten fed up with the birthfather. The birthfather (who called me over a month ago and was going to surrender) is not going to surrender, but will agree to the termination. According to the DCS lawyer, we no longer need anything from the birthfather. The bf's lawyer has to write up the paperwork, sign it, give it to the DCS lawyer to sign then get the judge to sign off on it. This should take about 2 weeks. THEN we get to start adoption proceedings. Has anyone ever gone through this before, where a parent agrees to termination, thus freeing the child for adoption? What can I expect to happen and how long should I expect it to take? I AM SOOOO excited. We are going to have the biggest adoption party ever. It has been almost 3 years. Thank you to everyone that has been praying for us and especially to fosterma , from whom I have gotten tons of support . |

Congratulations on getting another step further in this process. Do you mean three years since you have had the child(ren)? I am trying to remember your situation...one already adopted, fostering two? Sorry I can't remember exactly! Anyway, good luck with the adoption.

Congratulations! I though that if they do not voluntarlly surrender that there is a waiting period for bparents to appeal. If he is agreeing to the termination, it sounds like a surrender????
Best of luck, looks like things are going your way! bumpkin |

YEAH!!!!!
My computer has been down for going on 3 days and I am THRILLED to hear your news!! Once we got signed off by bp's and court we were told we could finalize by the end of the month. Then our attorney realized that there had never been a DNA test done on the baby and dad so we would have to publish in a paper for 45 days, so we got the next avavilable court date after that....Dec. 9th! We could've gone ahead with big sis, but we wanted to adopt them together so they'd have the same celebration day. I will pray that you guys can finalize by Christmas too, but even if not it is a HUGE burden lifted when the papers are signed and you are just waiting for the big day! We are trying to figure out what kind of party to have. If it had been a little earlier in the year we were going to have a picnic, but I'm NOT complaining!!!!! We may rent out a local pizza place and treat everyone who has been such a huge support to us. |
