Angry Very Frustrated and Concerned about 1st placement

Hey all I'm a lurker here on the board havent' done much posting yet. A little background info on me, hubby and I were licensed for fostering on Aug. 11 after recieving an emergency placement of a 12 day old infant. My frustration lies with the way our first placement has gone. First we had been visiting with the baby since he was 6 days old with the understanding that we would be taking over his care from his current temporary fp. When we finally took over his care we never recieved a call from his case worker to let us know how things were going, nor did we recieve our fp ID card for him or any other paperwork we were supposed to be getting. WELL long story short, I got a call FINALLY today from his case worker, thinking she was finally going to get us the things we needed from her. Instead she was informing me that the baby is going to be placed with his paternal grandparents, however not all of their background checks and things are finished yet. But she said that it was court ordered for the child to be moved immediately into their care. With as dissapointed as we are that he is leaving I am more concerned about how the transition is going to be made. We recieved the call at 1:30pm yesterday, and he is leaving at 9:30am today. But the weird thing is, the case worker is having us meet at MCdonalds, but she won't even be there to supervise the exchange. This strikes me as odd, becuause number one we don't know these people, and number 2 these people have never even met the baby. SO to say the least I am a little concerned about whether we should be doing this without somebody present to supervise this. Can anyone tell me if this has happened to them, is it a normal occurance? I am so stressed out over this whole thing, it really makes me want to reconsider the whole foster parent thing.

It sounds very strange to me. I'd insist that the case worker be there or no baby changes hands.

It has happened to me, but the cw was there to supervise. I would let her know that you have never met these people and you are not going to be responsible for turning over a child to strangers. Let her know that you don't want to be liable if the wrong people take the child. The child is in DCFS's legal care and someone from that department needs to be there!
