Can't believe what they came with!
Well we got the 3 foster children and I was shocked at all they came with. From what I read on here I wasnt expecting much. They had about 6 HUGE duffel bags and probably about 5 smaller ones. I mean if my hubby hadnt driven separate from me we could not have fit it in my car. We are going to have to get another dresser. The problem is I am probably not going to dress them in a lot of it. I am pretty picky about what my kids wear and don't like to put anything on them with lots of fading or wear so maybe I will just leave a lot of it packed in the duffels. I wonder how long it will be before I can get the biannual clothing allowance? So far they are better behaved than my own!

I know what you mean. My fd came with a fair amount of clothes.
I am not going to dress her in most of it. Their is stuff in there that is way too small...stuff in there that Is way too big by years! And alot of hand me downs that are just gross looking. I have got her some clothes on sale. But she is only 7 mths so while at home she can just wear a onesie. I am glad your kids are good. But it may be the honeymoon phase.....lol My fd is not so good. She is very needy and is like velcroed to me. She likes my hubby but just wants to look at him from in my lap. I hope soon she will let me put her down with out screaming. She is sweet and I love her already and will be sad when she leaves. She may have to go on the 16th of this month. The daddy that has had nothing to do with her just came into the picture. He has not wanted her, he has not payed child suport or anything. But now he wants her. OH well, I hope he really does want her and will love her with everything he is because that is what she deserves! Good luck with you little ones. |

Regarding the clothes they came with, if they are showing attachments to those items, please respect that and don't just leave the items packed up.
As far as behavior goes, there is a honeymoon stage before the kids start acting like kids. Good Luck! |

i am glad your fchildren came with a lot of thier things. i can't remember where i read this, but it was an account from a former foster child. anyway, she said that when foster families did not "unpack" their things, they always feared that meant they were going to be on the move in the very near future and were never able to relax because they thought there stuff was packed for a quick move. i don't know how old these kids are but maybe washing all the stuff and letting them go through the clothes with you to see what fits and can be put in their closet or dresser and what might be better to pack in a box because it does not fit at this time. that way you get to help weed out what might not be appropriate to wear and they get to "unpack" some of there things and still have something that is all thiers. their lives have just been turned upside down and something they brought from home might give them a little extra security.

I would try some of the suggestions the other posters gave. Also, there wouldn't be any harm in letting the children wear some of the worn out clothing on a day when you guys will just be staying in or maybe playing in the yard, especially if they seem "overly attached" to the stuff.
