help! stranger anxiety at visits
My foster baby is having stranger anxiety at visitation. I feel so bad for the parents and I can hardly stand to let the baby cry. They finally hand the baby to me (I don't ask because I know its their time with baby). Baby stops instantly and screams every time parents try to hold Baby. What can I do? Should I ask for more visits? Can I do that?

Do you have to supervise visits? We have the same thing happen at court and meetings and our fd's bps have been very gracious with saying they understand how attached she is to us. We have a parent aide or cw do the weekly visits and they say she does very well at them. It is comforting to me to be able to get the reports that they interact well and she seems happy and well adjusted.
How old is your baby? Ours is 17 months and I have found that it gets worse instead of better....sorry to say so. I also was able to share some written info with bp's that parents as teachers gave me about attachments and seperation anxiety. It helped them to see that it is GOOD that she is attached and that down the road if they are reunified it can help with attachment problems. Hang in there...it's a very awkward place to be! |
