Hi. I would like to foster parent a child who lives in VT, however I live in MA. She is also living with a aunt. Her mother died and father is in jail, so how would i go about this???

It really depends on what "ties" you have to this child. If she is already living with an aunt, then you may not be able to do much to sway the state into moving her.
You need to start by contacting the child's social worker to express your desire. If they decide it's feasible to move the child, they will initiate a homestudy to be done by YOUR state office. (They call this going through interstate {maybe intra- not sure}). It takes quite a while, from those I've spoken with who've adopted interstate. I've never spoken to anyone who has fostered interstate unless it was a relative, so I honestly don't even know if they will do that. The people I know who adopted from another state said that the children were not even allowed to move in with them until the adoption b/c they wouldn't move them from the foster family b/c of being in a different state. So, I really don't know. |
