We got approved in May, but because we had a vacation planned we waited to become active until June 20th. So....we have only been waiting for a little over a week, but it feels like forever. I have 2 ds who are off school for the summer, so that keeps me a little occupied. I walk past the babies room all the time and just stare in at the empty crib. We asked for a baby. I thought it would take forever, but she said that it could happen anyday. Every time the phone rings, I jump up to look at the caller ID hoping it's the county calling. Can you all who have fostered babies tell me how long you have waited going thru the county? The good and the bad! Thanks

We live in Houston. Our homestudy was approved on March 30, 2003. We did not receive a placement of a baby until October 7 2003. Hope your wait is shorter--I remember the agony!

We got our final approval September 12, 2001 and our first placement was Sept 21. I think it would have been a horribly long wait, but with 9/11 going on we were all terribly distracted. It was such a welcome time to have a newborn in the house when she did get here.
I have a pager for work and another fosterparent had suggested that we leave a message on our answering machine with my pager number "in case someone needed to reach us immediately". She said when she was waiting for placements she left her cell #. It must've paid off because I did get paged, and as always it was when I was least expecting it. Hope we hear from you soon that you got "the call"!! It also helped me to journal while I was waiting. I love looking back and seeing how impatient I was and how fast time goes once they arrive! |

In the county I live in the min you are aproved and before you recieve your License in the mail. They are calling you with placements. We have a huge shortage of foster homes in this area. If you are in the computer as aproved they are knocking at your door. I couldnt wait a long time to recieve a placement. After all the work and waiting I would go crazy waiting months.
Good Luck! |

still waiting...
We live in a small county in MN and have been licensed for a little over a month now... still no placements. I take that as a good thing because it means fewer children are in danger... at the same time, I can't help but jump every time the phone rings either... I look at our spare bedroom everyday and wish it was occupied... and tell myself to be patient.
Congratulations on your new license... keep us updated on your first placement! |

We were approved 6/26/04 and got our first call for a placement on 6/29/04 for a sibling group. They never came to us (relative placement instead) and we were told we are on the top of the list. So I'm hoping for a call tomorrow (7/6). I jump and scurry for the caller ID everytime the phone rings too.
