help with school situation for foster child

Iam in the process of adopting a child from another state. Yes, easter weekend she was able to move. I took her to register for school today and at first they would not let her in then i was told okay she can come to school temporarily, but because she is from another state and she has not been adopted she is out of boundries and i have to pay tuition for her, 1,500.00 in order for her to go to public school near my house or i will have to remove her. Help what do i do?
Can the worker from my state write a letter to say they have legally approved her move or do i have to pay 1,500.00 which i do not have on top of paying for before and after care because she is nine. Guide me someone, the state of kansas said they have not heard of such and do not have funds set up for school tuition but Ican pay out of the little subsidy she will get.

Help!

It doesn't make sense to me at all that you would have to pay anything for public school.

As far as the "out of boundaries" thing, do you have a letter of intent to adopt or any other legal ppwk that states the child is legally in your care? It shouldn't matter that she is not yet formally adopted.

I would call your SW and see what she/he recommends. Sounds like your school needs to be educated.

You should have paperwork showing she is legally placed with you- like your ICPC paperwork, at least!
That SHOULD be enough! Your SW should be able to help you get enough info to the school to avoid that charge! She is LIVING iwht you, right?!

very odd....

i think whats going on, which would make sence to me, the child is not actually living with you yet...i could be wrong...but i wasnt sure.

my suggestion is, when she finally moves in, then she is a legal resident of the town she is residing.

there should be no problem then.

are you going to give her a week off from school to bond a little with her.

I think its something that maybe you should talk to the worker about. This child will be going through this major transition in her life....new family, never alone a new school

see if you can ween her in school a little, to make her transition smoother.

its just an idea.

as for not being adopted....you are pre-adoptive, you are her mother....you shouldnt have to explain anything to the school on her legal status.

why bother...its none of their business anyway.

you are enrolling your daughter in her new school...period.

sometimes less information, is more.

good luck...id love to hear what happened...just sounds so odd to me.

school issues

yes she does live with me actually she has been here since thursday and i go back to work on monday. I took her to school and had to give the letter stating that i am in charge of her education from the agency due to the birth certificate not having my name, this is required of all children from foster care/ adopt. You are right less information is better information. Then this is when they said oh she is considered out of state and she needs to pay until the adoption is finilized. I am going to call the state worker to find out if icpc paperwork is sufficient after all that is legal paperwork that states she is legally moved and resides at my address. The school also suggested that i contact the school system she came from and have them pay the tuition. Thanks for all the advice i can not believed they are making me pay. I will let everyone know what the worker says.

thanks
