Smile New to the forum and to adoption...Nice to meet you

We are from West Virginia and live in a small close-knit community in the southwestern part of the state. My husband and I are both employed at the area’s local mental health center. Our oldest daughter is eight years old and has a very easy-going personality but is also known to be quite the little diplomat. Our youngest is two years old and is a strong-willed little girl who is very energetic and goes non-stop all day. We also have three dogs who are very much a part of our family. We attended the pre-certification classes in October, our home study was approved last month and now we are just waiting to be matched. We are very excited about the prospect of adopting children into our home and we would love to become a forever family to a sibling group. (We have our hearts set on a group of 3 brothers…The committee meeting is scheduled for the end of this month.) We are new to the adoption journey and I have many questions but more than any thing I think it will be beneficial to have your support. I located this forum while searching for adoption support groups; and after all who could provide better understanding than those of you who are also involved in the adoption adventure? I would love to get to know all of you as well. I’m looking forward to many future discussions!

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!
It is really great that you and your family are willing to bring a sibling group into your home. 3 boys, hold on tight!! It is sometimes hard for a sibling group to stay together. I hope all works out and GOOD LUCK on your adoption journey!!!

Welcome fellow West Virginian!

We are in Elkins in the highlands. Wonderful to have you here. Do you have an attorney yet? Ours is an hour outside of Charleston, and is wonderful so far.

It sounds like you will have a warm and loving home to bring these boys into ... not to mention a big heart.

WV is a beautiful place to raise children, a natural classroom.

Nice to meet both of you. I'm glad to meet people who are in a similiar place in their lives as I am. I don't really know many people who have adopted and there are many issues that each of us are dealing with or soon will be. This is a great place to find support because most others in the non-adoption community have no clue what we are talking about. For instance, I was talking with my mother the other day about homestudies, interviews, final approvals by homefinder supervisors, committee meetings,etc... She responded with "could you say that again in English?"

CC,
How old is Claire? DId you foster her first and if so how long?

Plareb,
What phase of the adoption process are you in now? Are you using a private agency or DHHR?

Welcome!

My hubby and I adopted a sibling group of 4 (3 boys/1 girl). It's been a challenge at times but we couldn't have "made" a more perfect family!

Looking forward to hearing updates from you as you go through the process.

Congrats!

HooverMis,

Claire is now 3 months. We did not foster her. We signed up as adopt only with our agency and that is what are state liscening(sp) is for. I wish you GOOD LUCK in your journey.

We're going through a private agency in Utah and we should be activated by the first of March or so. We've done all the prepatory work, it's just a matter of the board reviewing the files to make sure that we are who we say we are.

We wanted to find an agency in WV, but the only non-denomenational agency we found wouldn't return our calls (they finally sent us an introductory packet four months after we left a message). I think they are just overwhelmed, so we thought that we probably wouldn't get the attention that we thought we'd need.
