Congrats! The holidays are unfortunately a busy time for placements. Too much stress on the families and they take it out on the kids. Plus the kids are home from school all day long. Our first placement came Dec. 5th (we were licensed at the end of Oct). I had a couple of hours notice and was at Walmart shopping when they called to say they were 20 minutes away. 3 day old preemie twins Hispanic girls. Adorable. They stayed 10 months. We were called a week before Christmas last year for a newborn boy but had just taken a 2 yo girl with multiple broken bones and couldn't handle a baby as well. She's still here and hopefully will stay here forever. Good luck, there is nothing like having a little one in your house for Christmas.

Congratulations RJA00!

How long did it take for you to finish everything, from start to stop? My hubby and I have to wait until next month to even start classes. We're so excited, we've already started listing things we'll need to have before the baby gets here. We plan to accept 0-4 yr olds. lol We're already discussing what kind of beds to buy, everything that needs to be childproofed..etc. I know you're very excited. I'm so happy for you, and I don't even know you!

Wow.. I told my hubby we might get a kiddo for one of our birthdays. I guess I was right. Our birthdays are in Feb and March. There's just the 2 of us here, no pets. It would be a bitter sweet birthday gift I guess. It would be great to have a new addition in our lives, but terribly sad to know that something bad had to happen before the child came to us.

RJA00-

Congrats on finishing the homestudy! I know that is a load off huh? My hubby and I were licensed just over a month ago. We put off thinking about getting placements soon because our county doesn't have that many placements- and most are over the 0-5 range we were asking for. However, The afternoon before Thanksgiving- we were called and asked to take an emergency shelter placement of twins, 11 months old. We said yes at 3:30 PM, and the next 3 hrs were a flurry of hectic activity purchasing all we'd need for twice the babies we'd ever expected. By 7:30 we went to the county safe home and picked them up. We brought them over and my whole side of the family was there setting up cribs, high chairs, finding places for diapers and clothes etc. The girls were kind of quiet and definetly bewildered. A caseworker came over that evening amidst the chaos to tell us what little they knew up to this point about the girls. He explained that with the long Holiday weekend coming up they were thrilled we were willing to take them. After taking them they sprung on me that one girl was classified as "specialized care" because of moderate asthma as well as possible seizures due to recent shaken baby syndrome. I was kind of annoyed that they hadn't told me that when I'd asked about their medical- but I really thought we could handle it, and so far its been fine. Every day just gets easier as we all learn how to handle each other. Still, my heart gets a little more involved with each passing day too- I really do love these girls. I have had contact with their mom several times already and really feel she's just an inexperienced, very low self-esteemed, and poverty stricken young woman, who loves her kids. So I really want to help them all out- but I already know I will be sad when they leave. anyway, that's all I can think of about our first placement so far, I think they will be with us for 2 months or so.

Good luck to you!

We put down 0-5 on the application, but we changed on the last home visit. he said for sib groups were usually over 5. I would love to have twins. Do u work outside the home? We have the rooms set up. we were planing on going to MD for Christmas. If i get a placement right before i will not be going . keep me posted about the twins.
