Question Adoption with a custody case for another child

My husband and I just had a little girl in July and from a previous marriage my husband has a 7 year old daughter. We won primary custody last year but her mother is still taking us back to court to try and gain more custody for herself. We have a loving home and were thinking that we'd like to look into adoption to add to our family.

My question is; with the custody issues with my step-daughter would we have a chance at adoption. I wanted to find this out before hanging our hopes and dreams on adoption.

Thanks,

Julie

Having been adopted and going through adopting a child right now, this is just my advice... Adopting is a wonderful thing to do. It is rewarding but very emtional not only for you but for the child. Depending on the age of the child will depend on the emotional aspects of it. While you may be considered as adoptive parents even with the other custody hearings going on, you need to be sure you have your ducks in a row! The child you are trying to keep custody of is going through a lot right now and so are you. Perhaps it would be best to undertake one battle at a time. Everyone will need lots of energy for each undertaking and it's a lot to deal with in their selves. You want to be able to give your all to each situation and have clear thinking as well. Good luck with your decision!

Thank you so much. That is wonderful advise. We just started the thinking process and want to gather as much information as possible.

Good luck in your endeavors.
