Case Worker not helpful at all!!!!

This message was originally posted by KellyY.

I was wondering if any of you have had problems with the case workers? We got our two foster daughters almost three months ago and have just now got their shot records and still have no placement packet for them. The only reason I EVEN got their shot records was I had my DR. office call her finally and ask about them. I had a home visit with her recently and she never even spoke to the children. I am so disappointed in her. I mean these girls were our first placements and she has been terrible at returning phone calls (never does) even remembering some of the things she has said she would do for us. I realize they are very busy and are overloaded but that is NOT my fault and no wonder these children in the system get overlooked.
I am thinking of calling her supervisor. Any advice?
Thanks

Sadly, she sounds like my cw. Mine actually likes my fs, but is too busy to do the things she should. She didn't even call me when he was hospitalized until the day he was discharged. She apologized, using the excuse that she knows I'm a good foster parent & I'm doing all the right things, but a little support --especially during a crisis would be nice.

I got the placement packet for him when I picked him up, so that wasn't an issue, but I didn't get his shot record until I asked the HMO he belonged to for it. (He's since been on straight Medicaid, so I can go to a real doctor -- the HMO was awful, bordering on negligent, in my opinion, and was probably partially responsible for his needing hospitalization.)

This is the 2nd time I've had my fs (I had him last year at this same of year), and during the whole period last time, she only actually made it out to do a home visit once. (I did see her after most parental visits, though.) This time, she missed the first app't (a family emergency, but she didn't call until nearly a week later) & she's supposed to come again Wed. We'll see if she makes it.

I think they figure if you seem like a competent foster parent, you don't need much help or attention, and since they're so overworked, they focus on others who aren't as good. I try to look at it as a compliment. (And in my experience, the supervisor wasn't any better at answering my concerns.)

Good luck & hang in there. I think you'll find that these board provide you with more support & insight than the cws will anyhow.

Well that makes me feel better. I guess I never thought of it in that light about being a good foster parent so she doesnt worry. But I still wish the women knew how to pick up a phone!!! LOL

I have to agree, it doesn't seem like much to pick up the phone. My placement was for 91/2 months before we had a home visit. I also was told that they knew my son was fine and that they were, much needed else where. I also took it as a compliment.
In my experience, my CW appreciates the time I save her by just leaving messages or sending a letter with info. I feel that I have established a good repore with her and when I do ask for a phone call back, I usually get one.
It is frustrating when you need information quickly but can't get it. I do call supervisors and am just as sweet as I can be, that way no one gets mad, just say "I really needed the info and I know how busy so and so is..."
