Finally Approved in West Virginia

This message was originally posted by aler58.

We are FINALLY approved as foster parents. The homefinders in our area meet next week and we will be ""on the books". So, hopefully we'll get a quick placement. Our two foreign exchange students are leaving in June to go back to Ukraine and South Korea so our house will be quiet until we have a placement. Our Ukranian "daughter" was hoping to have a little sister before she went home. Wish us luck!

exchange students

This message was originally posted by BeccaAnn.

Hello,

We are leaving foster care and have thought about doing exchange because the committment is short and not permanent. Our daughter, age 14, is open to it. She doesn't want any more foster kids.

Can you tell me the problems and good things about exchange students?

My daughter was interested in having female high school students here from a country she would like to visit.

thanks!

We love our exchange students. Our daughter from Ukraine is a Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) scholar. This means she competed against approx. 30,000 students from countries which were part of the former Soviet Union. Only 1200 are selected so you can see that the kids are great. As with any exchange student, you need to provide the basics: bed, place to store clothing, three meals a day, and lots of love. Of course, you provide much more to the kids, they are such wonderful kids! They receive a stipend of $125 a month. There are some other requirements the kids have such as community service, etc. You "loan" them $200 to get school supplies, clothing, etc. This is reimbursed to you.
If you choose a student who is not FLEX, the basic requirements are the same. They come with their own money. Our son from South Korea is also a joy. Very polite and respectful. You can contact the agency we use: Pacific Cultural Exchange (PIE) or find other agencies on the net. I can give you more info if you private message me. Good luck.
