Baby New Year's!
This message was originally posted by hope4kids.
As soon as I signed off this afternoon the phone rang. I have a newborn baby girl for the holiday until they identify a long-term placement. She is 2 weeks old and absolutely tiny! The preemie clothes are too big for her. My 14 month old is unsure about this little person. But my 4 year old is thrilled and has been very helpful. We have dubbed her Baby New Year's! |

Well, Baby New Year's moved to a long-term foster home this afternoon. She had put me over capacity, especially because my toddler is medically complex. It was fun having her, but I must say I am looking forward to a solid night's sleep! |

It's always nice to hear about children being cared for by loving people. We have one natural daughter 11yrs (mine from a previous marriage) and we're in the works for becoming foster parents. The limit here is 4 foster children. So some day we may have 5 children in our home. How many children (foster, adopive or natural) do you all have?

I have a 4 year old daughter I adopted and a 14 month old daughter I am about to adopt. My license is about to be expanded so I could take three children in total, but I wouldn't take another long term placement until the baby is older and her health issues are more resolved. She needs a lot of time right now. |

My husband and I have one nearly 7 year old boy. Once we become foster parents, we hope to have a total of 4-6 kids eventually. We're going to start slow though-- take 1-2 fosterkids to start and see how that goes adjusting to 3 kids instead of 1. Hopefully all will go well, and we can add more.--FSTRMom2B |

We have a 17 month old son, an 11 y/o fs, a 7 month old fd, and they just called us about 2 & 8 y/o sisters so who knows. They should be calling me back any second. I had to double check with the other half about sleeping arrangements. We have boys in both rooms and the 8 y/o can't share.

You got a baby with only a diaper on? Wow. It breaks my heart. I was wondering, in situations like that, do you run out and buy baby clothes, diapers, formula, toys and baby food right away? Or are you already prepared for the possibility of a baby needing an emergency placement? We're not licensed yet, but when I see a good deal like a crib, stroller or car seat I want to grab it now so I'll be ready when we start getting calls for placements. What did you all do?

Joelle-----> Wow! 5 your house must be always bustling. Are you or your partner a full time stay home care giver? What is the agency's limit to how many foster children you can take in? Here our agency gives a limit of 4 children. Have you been providing foster care for a long time?

Personally, I collect those things as I go, if the things in question are free and in great condition. If they're not, then you can always find at least as good a deal at a garage sale in the Spring or Summer. A note of caution though - I've been told that car seats should not be picked up at garage sales or thrift shops or used at all, unless you happen to be a good friend of the person donating it and are sure it has not been in any accidents and that it is not older than 5 years old. We are really lucky up here in the Toronto area. The Toronto CAS gives you a new car seat for every child you need one for. They also give you a crib and if you take 2 babies they give you 2. It is all new stuff from Storkland. The carseats are really good ones though they do not do infant seats anymore. I still have one from that time and loan it around for newborns. Thr rest of the equipment you are on your own but at least the most important safety issue ones they have dealt with. |
