unsubstanated claims of spanking
This message was originally posted by nancy12346.
I had three foster children, 16, 5, 2. We were asked to get guardenship for the older child. This child was educationaly slow and thought we were going to adopt him. He called his social worker claiming I and my husband were spanking the 2 year. This child is just learning to talk--not many words. The social services moved the children. They found no events of hitting, but because a child said this they said it could not be proven yes or no. In other word I feel that they believe him. Any way they made an unsubstated claim and I have not had any more children placed. I was told my license was o kay and a note stating I was cleared to have more children. I was told by licensing that this was not the first time a foster parent claims made against them and probaly won't be the last. Do you think social services will place more children in my care or not? |

Spanking response.

Your situation sounds difficult. Can you ask for a "fair hearing" regarding the children being without evidence of spanking? It doesn't sound right.......? If you feel that you're in the right, then speak up for yourself. At this point, you don't have much more to lose.

I am in a similiar situation to yours , I had a 2yr old foster child and allegation was made against me for inapprioate displince. An anomyous call was made to social services. There are currently doing an investigation. There were no marks and no evidence of abuse. I hav e never had this problem before and have been a foster parent for seven yrs. It is very scary and I'm disappointed in the lack of support I'm recieving from my licensing agency . |

Did you ask the 16 year old why he would say something like that?

Unfortunately for us foster parents who have done no wrong, it comes to these things. But, this is consistent with being a foster parent. Here's a note: NOTE: AN INTERESTING FACT FOR YOU TO KNOW: A STUDY WAS COMPLETED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN. THE RESULTS WERE THAT IF YOU ARE A FOSTER PARENT FOR FIVE YEARS, YOU HAVE AN 80% CHANCE OF HAVING AN ALLEGATION FILED UPON YOU. But, the system needs to be in place for those foster parents who actually do need to be investigated. You need to have your documentation in order and if they pull the children and enter it in your record, you will need to get an attorney to have it expunged from your record. It can be done.
