We are waiting for an adoption finalization date for our 4 foster children. They have beenw ith us since July 2007. Bio mom surrendered her rights January 2008. All paperwork are in the hands of the judge right now. Just waiting for the date. I am a wreck, I feel like until that finalization date, someone is going to come a take my kids away. Is that crazy? Anyone else adopting through NYC Foster Care system??

Congratulations on your pending adoption. Sounds like it has been a long journey for your family and these 4 children. Please let us know when you get a date to finalize.

No, I did not adopt thru NYC. However, I do understand your feeling that someone is going to take your kids away. Once rights were terminated for my AD's birth family, I felt relief. I didn't realize until I finalized that I was fooling myself. All those emotions hit me in the court room as the adoption was taking place. All the stress of not knowing when or if someone would take her was leaving my body as she was becoming my forever daughter. I cried during the entire process . . . I had the courtroom in tears. The judge even got choked up. It was a beautiful day.

I can't wait for your family and these children to have the experience of finalization. It is a day that provides the children stability and takes a lot of stress off of you.

thank you for your kind words, I'll keep you posted. My attorney thinks they will probably do it on National Adoption Day since we are adopting 4. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Awesome! I finalized last year on National Adoption Day. It was a lot of fun for everyone involved. The judges enjoyed the day as well because they didn't have to deal with any criminals that day. It was just all about the children and their "forever families".
