Matched!
we just accepted a match with a 10 year old boy!
we've been dealing with this waiting process for a year and are so relieved to finally be working toward a defined goal. we visited with him twice before we were matched, so we really think this is a good fit. his cw has been nothing but friendly and helpful to us, but our own agency has been difficult to deal with (not answering any calls, almost not having anyone call in to represent us for his matching, etc.). how much will our agency be involved in the transition process and from here on out? any thoughts? |

Congratulations!!!! We were also matched with a great kiddo in June and after doing several visits he is moving in this weekend. He was with another agency and his worker has been okay to work with but our worker from our agency hasn't been available to us like she once was

Congratulations!
Congratualtions on your match! You are sooo lucky to have been able to meet and visit with the child before placement! I hate that in MO, we can't do that. (At least in our area, they don't.) We are fortunate in that our agency is actually pretty easy to deal with. We are adopting from another county though, and they are terrible, just disorganized. So I have to keep up on top of things and make reminder phone calls to them sometimes. Plus our kiddo's worker is always sick it seems and we always have to reschedule stuff. I hope yours goes well!

Things are still going well with the pre-placement visits. We've attended a therapy appointment with him, and we are going to visit him this weekend. His cw said doing more visits to our home (we live four hours away) would be better for him, but then she never has any time to schedule them. She said it would be a month before she could bring him for a weekend, but we were welcome to drive over there and spend time with him. We'll do it because we want to help build a bond, but it's going to get financially restrictive driving that far, hotels, meals, activities out, etc...any advice or experiences with a similar situation?

J. Eliz -
I don't have any real good advice for you on the drive. We are doing pre-placement visits with a 9 year old but she is only one hour away. I would ask the case worker if you could go pick him up for the whole weekend. You'd still have to drive out there and back (twice when you count returning him on Sunday) but at least he'd have some time with you. Maybe each caseworker is different but we were able to go pick up our Princess and then bring her home and take her back later. |
