OREGON foster to adopt
Hello,
I'd love to hear any experiences from parents who have adopted in Oregon. My husband and I want to adopt and are not interested in long waiting lists for newborns, as we both want very much to become parents, not spend too much AND provide a home for a harder to place child. We're willing to deal with uncertainty and challenges that would come with this. However, we would like to start with a fairly young child for our first. For that reason, we are leaning towards international adoption, but I'd be particularly interested in hearing about the adoption of babies or toddlers through the state of Oregon. Thanks! |

we are in the process of finalizing our adoption of adorable sisters we are adopting from oregon. we live in ohio. it has been an overall great experience. the girls just turned 2 and 3. our finalization will take longer than we thought because they reduced the number of people working on out of state finalizations and it will now take approx 2 yrs where as it used to be 6mos to 1 yr. when you adopt from oregon there is a committee that decides who gets the child. they have to have more than one family to consider so this sometimes slows things up. we knew about the girls last may and it took until september to have the comittee date. we were chosen and got the oldest in october. we spent 6 days in oregon transitioning her. we went back in march and got her little sister and spent 4 days there doing her transition. we had to pay for our hotel and rental car and all meals upfront and we were reimbursed for the first trip after about 4 months. we are still waiting for reimbursement from the march trip. the interstate compact pays for the traveling expenses which included meals and some gas as well as hotel and car. when all is said and done we will have about $150 out of pocket to adopt these two wonderful blessings. they also will cover the finalization expenses if you use one of their lawyers in oregon. if you choose one from your state you have to pay but i think they might reimburse you.
