National Adoption Month...

Is anyone here finalizing their adoptions this month? Or doing anything special this month to celebrate National Adoption Month even if you are not finalizing?

We finalized in April when we adopted but I still like to pay special tribute to this month!

It looks like I will be finalizing this month on my son, but I don't have the exact date yet.

There was an event that was called "circus of the heart" for families that have adopted through MN state or that are in the process. This was yesterday. All of us had a great time celebrating the kickoff to National Adoption Month. It was also really good for the children to look around and see odles of families that all grew through adoption.

I agree! It is a Special Month. Thank you for starting this post.

Crick - Belated Congratulations on your April Adoption.

Withay - Congratulations on your pending adoption. Please let us know when you get the date.

o2b30again - Congats on your recent adoption and your upcoming adoption.

On November 15th, it will be one year since "The Queen" and I became a forever family. I plan to spend a special "Mommy-Daughter" day together (she is 22 months). However, I am looking forward to hearing what others are doing in November.

Parenting - I'm chuckling because I re-read my post and it does sound like recent April! Truth is we adopted 7 years ago! But hey! Still celebrate the family so thanks for the belated congrats!! Sounds like you and dd will have a special celebration and Happy 1 year for you!!

I use this month to educate family/friends more on adoption and foster care in general. I'm planning to send a little thank you note to our agency to thank them for all their hard work and dedication to their waiting child program this week.

Hoping to do something "neat" at least once a week this month.

O2b - That sounds like a great day! I need to look for more "events" in my area.

Withay - Keep us posted on the date! I can't wait for this one..been a LONG time coming!!!

2002! ! ! 2009! ! ! ! Every day with these children is a Gift.

Doing something neat each week sounds like a good idea. My DD and I went to the hospital where she spend her first month of life. We took some things for the newborns who are needing help. They were so generous with lots of items when I brought my DD (at the time FD) home. So, I like to repay to other Foster Children who need the same kind of help.

I plan to send a note to my agency this month with a donation. However, I may just take my DD with me so they can see how well she is doing.

Please share what neat ideas you come up with Crick and anyone else out there who wants to contribute.

I am hoping to celebrate good news this month. We did some respite a couple weeks ago with a little boy that is up for adoption, they asked us to keep this in our mionds while doing respite. We are now set up for a match meeting TOMORROW! I'm so excited cause we have already met him and been told a lot of his behaviors (good bad and ugly). SO we hope to get good news this month to celebrate national adoption month

traditionally I read adoption themed stories at my daughter's daycare and/or preschool. Am reading Little Miss Spider and A Mom for Choco.

Our new pre-adoptive placement moves in 11/16, so we won't be final but we're making a huge step forward.

We are not finalizing this month but we are signing all the papers for the adoption and filing the petition for adoption.

Crick - you have me thinking about what else I can do to make people aware of Foster to Adoption. So far I have posted something on my Facebook account to educate my friends. In addition, I have posted something on my Twitter account to educate all those people who are aimlessly following me. And I plan on posting something in the very near future on my blog.

So far that is all I have come up with to educate others. I do plan on taking my DD up to my agency and giving them a donation as well.

Thanks again for starting this thread!
