Ideas for Adoption Day?

We finally got a court date just last week for adopting our daughter. It is already here, tomorrow!!!!

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what to do afterwards? She just had a huge birthday party in April so we didn't want to go really all out with the presents and such since it was a combined celebration then but as I sit here thinking I am wondering, should I at least get her a cake?

Or is there something else that we could do to make it special? Allot of family and friends will be at court with us and then afterwards we plan on going out to eat... but does someone have any other ideas? Our daughter is 2!

Thanks so much!

On our daughter's adoption day, we just dressed all up for court, got special teddy bears for both her and our oldest daughter, and then went out to dinner afterwards with some family. We got our oldest daughter a "Big Sister" badge and our new daughter a "Little Sister" one.

We held off on the party until her dedication (christening) at church. Then we had a party and played a Powerpoint of pictures of her over the past 17 months she had been with us and we showed a music video about adoption. (I think it was Steven Curtis Chapman -- "When Love Takes You In" -- not sure if that's the exact title.)

Congratulations! I say even if you just had a party, party some more! It's reason to celebrate!

I am planning a big open house after we complete Max's adoption. I am going to invite everyone who has touched his life over the past two years. As for his actual adoption day, I don't really know.

We're planning to go from the Courthouse to a photo studio to get formal family portraits done while we're still dressed up (Me and dresses are a rare occurrance so they want proof I actually wear them)

We're also going to end up having 2 adoption parties (one in our area and then another north so my family can celebrate too--I have multiple family members who are too frail to travel longer distances).

Well, the laws regarding foster kids and driving vary state-to-state, but in Colorado, foster kids are not allowed to have any sort of driver's license or learner's permit. So, when we finalized our daughter's adoption when she was 15, the biggest part of her celebration was getting to go to get her learner's permit!

We all dressed up and went to dinner, too. But, that was about it because she didn't want to make a big deal about it.

I have a freind who does a great job putting music to video so I am planning on finding a cool song that means a lot to me and my adoptive child and making a video of photos of the child with me and before me if I have any of those......

I was going to use LET ME BE ME by Three Doors Down till the sold it for a caveman / insurence add....
