How long from filing for TPR to court date?

I am sure this differs in every state/county, but we have had our foster son for only 4 months, birth mom wants to voluntarily TPR and it sounds like so does Birth dad. I heard today that the petition to the court has been written up and signed. Does anyone know the next step? and any idea how long it might be until we know a date for TPR? Anything would help my wondering brain!

I think I get your yahoo group emails. We work w/ Rhea. So, assuming we're in the same state, you should have your court date within 30 days of the petition. However, some counties in our area are super slow. How exciting!

I think it would move very quickly for a voluntary. In our case it was contested -the ORIGINAL date was 3 months from the filing, but the trial ended up being nearly a year later since the parents were able to keep getting continuances (changing lawyers and stuff).

In our state, a voluntary goes to probate court to process an adoption. My lawyer just told me today that she felt that, since ours has become voluntary with bmother, and bfather has never even seen this child in 12 years, that it should be smooth sailing. Basically, she bmother doesn't even have to show up to consent if she doesn't want to. She just has to be served with notification that if she doesn't appear, she will lose her rights.

In our county in MD it has been taking a year or more from TPR to adoption finalization. I adopted from a different county 3 years ago and it took two months. I am hoping to talk with the adoption worker here to find out why it is taking so long.

I think I was told that it takes about 2 months to get things on the calendar - they're booked and they have to notify everyone on the case...

BUT if other things have to be done - papers filed, reports written - well add on 2-3 months per report and per person - because those things always tend to take forever...
