How does matching work?
I know through classes I will find this out, but thought I ask now because I am curious. If you are a foster/adopt family...and it is likely that the child will be TPR'd....do they have you meet the child first before agreeing to foster or foster/adopt them? Do they ususally have that much information on the child? Thank you!

We've had it happen both ways as far as visits. We've had pre-visits, and we haven't. Just depends on the situation.
As far as info...in our state, we can't see "the file" if the child isn't TPR'd. All we get is the standard info that comes over with any new foster placement. |

Here's how it went down for us.
We were "matched" with a sibling group of 2, and said yes, we wanted to proceed. We were then given their files to read and review, and again, answered yes (could have said no had we wanted to) to proceed. First meeting was set up, and we hit it off instantly, so we said yes to proceeding as did the kids (they were 9 and 10 when we met them). Few weekend visits later, they moved in and the adoption finalized 9 months later. **ETA: Our kids families were already TPR and we were seeking foster to adopt if that helps any**

I have been matched with a 7 y.o. boy, his birthday was today. I just had a meeting yesterday to find out more about him. I didn't read any of his files and probably won't even meet him first. He will be with me in less than a week. He hasn't suffered any abuse and doesn't have any physical or emotional problems, so they say. He's being moved to my house because the current foster parents have 5 other children in the home and they believe he would do better with 1 on 1 attention. I'm looking forward to this and not really concerned because most of his issues probably won't transfer to my house since he'll be with just me.

We are straight adopt. We were fortunate to meet our daughter at a adoption matching party held by another agency. We got to play and talk with her at the event. We decided to submit our home study.
We saw her a second time at another matching party held by the same agency. We were picked at the staffing meeting and they gave us a little more information, we wanted to proceed so we read her case file. We said yes and then we filled out the pre-adoptive paperwork. They set up visits and we saw her for about five weeks before she moved in. We are scheduled to finalize in June 2009. |
