Help with Photolistings (x-post)
Okay guys, I need some help from any of you that have done straight adoption through dcfs from photolistings or one of the other agencies. We have put in our home study on 2 little boys, one in particular that we are very interested in!
So, now what? I never really thought that we would ever do the straight adoption thing, but as our wait lengthens for a placement, I have been looking at photolistings and such. Do you guys have any advice on how to go about this? Any way to improve our chances of being picked? Anything would be helpful!

I don't have any advice on how to improve your chances of being picked. But we have submit our homestudy for several children on the photolistings and have been selected for a few. In fact, the majority of our matches have come from the listings.
Unfortunately, the majority of them have had alot of issues that we are not prepared to parent. What I found helpful though, was to have your worker reach out to the child's worker weekly after your home study has been submited. They get tons of homestudies and you can get lost in the pile. Good luck!

CrystalP...
Photolistings Work!!! We inquired about our 8 year old daughter on adoptuskids... 5 months later she moved in. She has very few issues. She is a straight A student with E's in conduct. She was only on the site for about 2 days. The ones that stay on the site for a while have more issues. Check it EVERY day. Some of them are only on there for one day! They respond to the first inquiries first... so it pays to watch it a few times a day! I wish you the best of luck! We actually made it to a few staffings from those inquiries and we had to make a choice between two awesome kids!!! It WILL happen for you! Prayers help too ![]()

I am in the same process as you right now. No advice, but I would say it takes patience and that a positive answer may not mean much, so dont put much stock in anything until your caseworker and the child's caseworker are actually talking. My new motto is prayer, patience, and positively stated tenacity (weekly emails about the child you inquire on ). I am glad to hear though there are others on here in this process. Best of luck I hope you find the kiddo/s God has for you soon.

The little one that we are most interested in has been up for about 2 weeks, so far. He was a micro-preemie, but it doesn't go into depth on his medical issues, only that he may have Cerebral Palsy and has multiple medical issues. I'm just drawn to him! I put together a letter last night that describes our family and tells a little about why we think we would be a good family for him, and included a few pictures of our family. I'll call my worker on Monday to try to get things going on that end. I inquired about him about 2 weeks ago when he was first put up, but never heard anything. Then I found him on another site a couple of days ago and the contact info was different!! So, I inquired again. We'll see what happens!

We were working with an agency that did in and out of state adoptions for older children. We had them send out our homestudy on many children. They did hear back from the worker on a few of the kids, one we went to committee on but were not picked. I was constantly on websites and was the one picking out kids and contacting my agency to find out more info about them.
We searched for almost a year and then I found our kids. I found them in November of 2006 (they are from another state) and they moved in with us in April of 2007. We adopted them in July 2008. They do have issues, most of which we never knew about until they moved in. They are older - 14 and 15. There are good days and bad days and really bad days but they have come a long way.Good luck with your search! |

Crystalp,
We too are submitting for little ones on the photolistings but haven't heard anything more. They have quickly pulled several photos off after we have submitted our homestudy, but we have never heard anything more. I think I know which little one you are talking about and he is such a cutie. God bless you and I hope your prayers are answered to be a Mom soon. Debbie
