anyone know why they need my children's social security numbers?

in order to become licensed in tn, they are under the impression they need the social security numbers of my children. anyone know why? i really hesitate to give it to anyone....and i just don't understand how having my 2 year old's social security number will make me a better candidate to be a foster/adoptive parent. i have adopted 4 kids before this, and i never have had to do this. help!

i did...the worker said, "because we need to make sure that who you say lives in your house, lives in your house." that doesn't even make sense to me....and if it did, i would think it worked the other way around. i actually think i just happen to live in a social security happy state...bc again, this is my fifth adoption, and never before has anyone ever wanted it. i was hoping that someone would know the super secret reason the worker either didn't want to tell me, or didn't know. i get so angry over all the hoops they make us jump through to adopt our son's brother, that i really am about to dig my heels in the ground about something....i think this might be it. lol. it just seems senseless.

Are they really going to make such a big issue about a child? Makes no sense! And I wonder if they even check the SS#'s to see where they live? When we became licensed to foster they didn't ask for our 13 yr olds SSN here. Just seems odd.

i doubt it. just seems like some guy once made a form and was like, "what else can we put on this.....we already ask for the make and model of their kitchen sink." lol.

What the ?? - The only way they can confirm if a child is living w/ you by the SS# is only 3 ways:

1) By checking with the IRS to see what household is claiming the children, which CWS does not have access to and

2) also by checking social security admin to see if the child is getting benefits and what address, but that's assuming a child is getting $ and i don't think cws is privileged to that 411 either! The fed's are tight with their databases!!

3) By checking state paid benefits thru the state, child support, wic, welfare, afdc,

extra thought - They also could be checking your children's credit to make sure you are not financially taking advantage their good credit. But should be signing a waiver if they do that -
it's an interesting request, I'd definitely question it too! Especially if they've not done it before.

good points....yeah, i will be digging my heels in, and will NOT give them over without a very clear, perhaps in writing, explanation that i agree with. i also thought....maybe they want to make sure my kids haven't committed any crimes, but i thought that was what a background check was for...that you have to sign and agree to, and i know my toddler is stubborn and unruly at times, but i know for a fact he's never broken the law. lol.

Maybe it's in case something happens to the kids. Like you suddenly get abusive and they get removed or in the case of a death or something or maybe your child isn't really yours and is one of those milk carton kids. You can do a check with social security to make sure the names, numbers, and birthdates match. I guess it's a way to keep tabs on people.

yeah...i guess i should also add, they already got copies of their birthcertificates, shot records, and official adoption order and decree, and a medical report from their doctor. so...they know they are mine, they know i didn't steal them...unless i'm really good with fraudulent paperwork, and they have already talked to our social worker in our other state where we adopted the sibling of the child we are adopting now....so...no milk carton kids here. lol.

LOL...then I agree that they probably just needed to add some stuff to the form to fill up the page. But they didn't ask for any of that stuff for my son. But next year when he turns 14 he will have to get the child abuse clearance annually.
