Seeking Advice
So as I mentioned in another thread baby boy is going to be adopted by family members but will be staying with us for Christmas. I do not want to offend the adoptive parents but we would like to be able to send all of his Christmas presents with him as we both are from large families that plan on buying for him no matter what. Do we just pack the stuff up and hand it to them when the turn over happens. Do we ask the social worker to broach the subject with them? What is proper in this sort of situation?

I haven't been through this, but as we are planning to adopt I would be thankful that someone loved him enough to make his Christmas special. I can't imagine anyone getting offended and if they did, that's ridiculous. It's for him, not them. The only thing I would do is maybe talk to them to make sure nobody gets him what they are planning to get (like he gets two rocking horses or something). What a lucky little boy that so many people love him!

Yup. Pack up any toys you've given him and send them along when it's time. Also include any pictures of him unwrapping them.
Too many times kiddos end up with "holes" when they've come into care. Especially if they're particularly little and can't form memories for themselves like an older kiddo can, and even more so if they were in care for an extended period of time. I take loads of pictures and keep track on a calendar of anything special we did, milestones reached etc and send that along too. |
