My house was so messy

Today we had our monthly visit from our kids social worker. I am such an organized, almost anal person when it comes to my house being clean. But, today . . . I know she did not think much of it, just me. Lunch dishes were all over my counters, games all over the front room, crayons and books all over the kitchen table, a "fort" in one bedroom, another bedroom a mess because we are transitioning bio brother and getting bunkb beds tonight, I was washing sheets and so another bedroom had beds with no sheets. It is just so not me. I don't usually feel like me house has to be "perfect" when workers come, but at least mostly picked up. I guess today is just one of those days that will happen when you have 5 kids under 9. Oh - and today is the first day of Thansgiving break so all the kids are home.

I'm sure she understands. When I have my neices and nephews over, my house gets junky in seconds. Kids feel as if they have to dump ALL of their toys out on the floor. Once I feed them lunch, I have no time to wash their dishes right away because I'm too busy trying to keep an eye on them. I'm sure they were running around and very happy and she could see that everything is
A-OK. Wow...5 under 9!!!

I'm sure she thought your house was perfectly normal for a mom with 5 kids under the age of 9! Just sounds "lived in" to me!

I'm sure it was fine. Hey, I hate to admit it, but with just 3 kids between the ages of 4 and 7, my house looks like that a lot!

Doesn't sound like an issue at all. There's a big difference between messed up and dirty. That just makes you human!

I'm sure they were happy to see a home where the family gets to "live".

When the certifier came to our home, we had just cleaned it spotless for a realtor tour that day. So we got the shpeal of how they don't have perfect kids, and if that's what we're expecting, etc. etc.

So we had to reassure them that our home was not normally like this. Ever....

Exactly...HUGE difference between messed up and dirty!

I have 6 cats...my house is always clean...but, I keep up after their litter boxes, etc.

Now, if a social worker came in to poop and pee on the floor, it'd be a whole other thing!

I know what you mean about being almost anal about cleanliness...but you know what...I don't think my tombstone will say "earned the good housekeeping reward"...so, I let things slip some now. haha

I've learned to let go of some of my anal housekeeping behaviors over the years. I used to vacuum behind people when the came in my home . I wouldn't worry about it. Sheets off beds is a sign of a clean home...not a messy one, lol.

Kids make messes and they know that. Of course, I do the same thing as you on this. I want my home to be perfect when they get here and I worry when it's not, lol.

Thanks guys. I really don't think she thought much of it. It was just not typical for me to have my house like that.
