1/32 indian
does anyone know if the Tribe will fight for the children if they are 1/32? I am guess that is what they are. Grandma is a 8th ( grandpa unknown but they said pretty sure 0) Biological mom has 0 dad would be we think 1/16th making the kids 1/32. Is it a real possiablity we would lose the children to the Tribe since they would be 1/32? and dad was not inrolled ( but grandma they believe was)
The tribe has not gotten back to the state yet on if the girls qualify and the state is saying not to worry because they will fight for us to keep the girls( we are biological mothers inlaws) But I am of cource worried sick! We had no idea they had any indian blood in them nore do they know. It was all a big surprise to us all. <--------- extremely worried. Last edited by myangels : 09-29-2008 at 02:58 PM. |

It will depend somewhat on if the parents said that the child(ren) is/are Native and what tribe.
I believe, though I may be mistaken, that some Tribes will fight harder for the child(ren) to be placed in permanent placement with a member of the Tribe than others do. Good luck.

I think unless the girls are on the official rolls of the tribe you don't have to worry.

In our tribe, you have to be 1/4 to be enrolled. I don't think they would fight it.

That's a tricky situation, and it completely depends upon the tribe.
I know Cherokee allows enrollments less than 1/4, and if there's any link to the rolls, be it the children, the parent, grand-parents...they have been well known to fight the state in regards to staying in tribe, because we have lost so much of our identity. I say "our" because I am registered Cherokee. Now, I don't know about the other 4 remaining civilized tribes in the state, or any of the "non-federally recognized tribes"...but as far as I know, unless the biological parents report it or it's somehow found out that they are tribal members, it does have to be reported to the tribe, and ultimately, left in their hands on what to do. I'd like to say as little as 1/32 wouldn't be an issue...but as the Cherokees say...Cherokee blood, no matter how thin, like gold, still shines just as bright. So, if any of the other tribes think this way...just be prepared it may go that way...but I am thinking probably not.

What she said ![]() It all depends on the tribe, bio parental preferences, how willing the agency is to try to work with the tribe should they want to have the kids move and how dedicated you guys are about honoring the children's culture. |
